Woodland Scenics Flock - Best match to GW Battlemat?

Just like it says on the tin - anyone got any idea which of the Woodland Scenics green flock colours is the best match to a GW Battlemat? I'm about to base a load of scenery and haven't been able to look at the two things next to one another to judge. Thanks in advance.

Well firstly, the GW battlemat is covered in static grass, not flock (flock being just coloured sawdust), so matching it with static grass would probably be better (unless you are trying to avoid using static grass for some reason).

If you want a static grass that matches the GW battlemat, try Noch Summer Green static grass. I have two 100gram bags of it, and it matches it very well. I've heard Noch is a German model train and scenery company, and I think their static grass is both very affordable and good quality.

That's why when they makes a unit plastic and charge the same as when it was metal I don't care. To me the model just got better for the same cost, who cares about anything else.

In terms of GW static grasses, I find glade grass come closest to matching the mat. Perhaps if you mix in some of the standard (more neon like) static grass, you can get a similar look.

Excellent advice. Thanks both. I'll see if I can find a railway store that stocks the Noch stuff as the GW static grass is insanely overpriced!

FWIW the GW Citadel Scenery Painting Pack is a cost effective way of getting lots of static grass.

I'm not sure how it compares to the price of alternative makes, but compared to their own 15g packs it's about 2.5 times cheaper by mass - and you get a bunch of other goodies for free.

I don't mean to be too critical of GW, but there are better ways of getting what is in the scenery pack.

250mL sample pots of acrylic indoor house paint are about the same as what paint they provide in the GW scenery pack, and the 100g bag of Noch static grass I bought was only 9 GBP from eBay (plus postage).

    I think GW deserve criticism!

    Thanks for the link.
