One codex or expansion each month.

    Some very interesting stuff here:

    http://natfka.blogspot.com/2012/07/f...gn-studio.html

...but the most interesting to me:

"Lastly I spoke to Robin Cruddace. I asked him about GW’s release schedule and to my utter amazement, he said that they were aiming for some sort of release each month. Be it a codex or some sort of expansion. I would be surprised if this were true!"

Thought this deserved a little more than just bundling into the 2012 megathread, but feel free to lock it up or merge it if needed.

Mostly he got fed the same old market jargon BS!

A couple of things of note:

Matt ward apparently did not know that both sisters and necrons date back to 2nd.

Apparently judging by their deep strike answer they are not aware the genestealers (ymgarls) CAN charge after appearing along with some nasty deathstar like VV squads.

Interesting to hear ward admit that business decisions DO force them to make specific design choices

I'm curious about Cruddace's comments. That "release each month". Is that specifically a 40k release every month (which I have a hard time believing before I actually see it), or is it a general release for any one of GW's game systems (which seems more in keeping with their traditional style.)?

    Food for thought, anyways.

The next bit gives some context and makes it seem 40k-specific. He also says that they'll basically have to pump out the expansions to keep the codices to a 4-year cycle.

...but I'll take even a 4-year cycle compared to what we have now. It's also an implicit admission of 7th edition in 2016, as if there were any doubt.

I'd post it all here, but that seems a little unfair to the guy with the scoop.

    Edit to add:
One odd thing, although a little on the wonk side of things: I wonder if Jervis spends a lot of time reading up on the OSR* movement in D&D circles or studying the schism between players of D&D 3rd/4th edition. The idea of dissociative mechanics has been a big talking point for a few years with those groups.

Its also basically different language for "resonance" and "intuitive mechanics" that Magic the Gathering designers talk about all the time.

That's really not what Mat was saying. He was talking about how Sisters and Necrons were introduced in 2e, just as Dark Eldar and Tau were introduced in 3e.

This could be a hint to the rumor of mini-dexes in White Dwarf.

Wow, the way that bit about a release or expansion every month was phrased really does make it seem like they will be releasing more codices in quick succession. Personally, I can see this happening. We currently have rumors that Chaos is next followed by Dark Angels. There have been reported sightings of Black Templar models, and we all know how badly 'Nids, Tau, and Sisters (The WD 'dex is decent. You can field an okay army (I play Sisters), but, what it really lacks, is flavor. It has to be the most boring codex out there, including Chaos) need to be updated.

There are 14 army codexes, 4 expansions. Add to this the rumoured IA codexes (sp?), maybe even alternative army lists and rules for new models (like flyers). That's a lot for a 4 year cycle even if we don't get a new race.

Re: One codex or expansion each month.

Well, there's a lot of ways to interpret it.
*For one, we can interpret it as "no change whatsoever" - GW has tried to have a major release every month for several years now(?), be it a codex, army book, expansion, edition, starter, or just a really big juicy wave.
*It could, as you say, be a up-ramped release schedule for 40K in general. The problem I see with that is that I always thought they were already releasing stuff as fast as their production could manage - where would they get the extra resources from?
*A third, and my favourite, would be that considering how poorly the current set of codices mesh with 6th edition, they might try to create "wave-less" codex releases. I.E. A new codex per month, but without the models that usually accompany it, just to get it all properly updated for 6th edition. With 14 armies in total, this would mean they could have all the rules fully updated a mere year from now, at which point they can focus entirely on model waves, expansions, and possibly new armies.

No, mostly he got told useful info about the decisions behind the mechanics of 6th edition.

Apparently judging by their deep strike answer they are not aware the genestealers (ymgarls) CAN charge after appearing along with some nasty deathstar like VV squads.
But Genestealers (Genestealers) can't deep strike then charge, which is what they were saying.

Found another person who'd been there: According to Mauler in this thread on Advanced Tau Tactica... soon, with a codex every 2-3 months.

This may be referring to the iPad codex release schedule of one per month. Thoughts?

Interesting to hear Phil Kelly is writing the Tyranid book. Will this finally be the second army to draw me away from my Thousand Sons? I love the model range but all the talk of the codex being terrible has put me off them.

    Some amazing news, if true.

The hints that Kelly is already working on a new Nid book (which is practically brand new, in GW terms) do lend credence to the idea that codexes will be updated much faster. Here's hoping.

So when do we actually start seeing some tangible info on next month's release, if there is one?
Of all the threads in all the forums in all the world you had to post into this one.

I would think that any news from White Dwarf will start circulating on the 24th or 25th. Or we might get lucky and rumours will break earlier.

Another faq before the end of the summer mmm, that's good. And i'm curious about nids by Kelly, i could buy them as a second army.
