Cool Marienburg Guild Army - Draccan's slow progress towards a fighting city state

    We few, we happy few...
...well I have decided a while back to join the happy owners of a Marienburg force. I like the whole idea of being sorta Empire, but seceeded. What can be better than a rebellious city state? I am more inspired by Venice than the Netherlands, but army will reflect a little of both perhaps.

    Gameboard
At this stage I have been gathering miniatures and pieces, but haven't really assembled much if anything except I spent a couple of weekends painting and fluffing a Citadel Gameboard.
Here is what I wrote about the Gameboard:
    http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...n-and-thoughts
A collection of pics for the gameboard, that I painted:

A representative picture of my painted gameboard:

Also here is a collection of pictures of the gameboard in action:

    Concept:
I plan to use the Lion symbol for Marienburg, so I have gathered 150-200 of the old empire shields with a lion head. The symbol of Venice is the Winged Lion of Saint Mark and the lion symbol can be seen many places in the city and the museums. Also I will go for the usual Marienburg colours, blue, yellow and red colours.

The army will be comprised of many older miniatures. I am going to forego the usual order of standardized Empire units and uniforms. Thus the three main colours will be used in a variety of ways. Also I have many older miniatures (see pictures later). The plan is to mix my units with old and new GW miniatures. And I plan to acquire non-GW miniatures like Avatars of War and esp. Gamezone to be included as well.
I have also a few dwarfs to be included in the units. Furthermore I plan to include a giant, a unit of slayer dwarfs, an ogre unit as well as a leadbelcher unit. Obviously these will only be fielded in friendly battles.
Maybe one day I will acquire a Marienburg Steamship from Forgeworld. But that is not for now.

I own two War Wagons, one of them painted, some crews have broken weapons and one or two crews are missing. I am going to merge these two when painted, so that they become one wagon train with a feet or two of chain between them and four horses dragging them forward. The War Wagon crew may be absorbed into normal units and instead I will mount handgunners in the War wagon train and create special rules for them.

    Further information:
My general army, plastics, partly painted:

(none of it painted by me, all will be Marienburged..)
And a huge, somewhat blurry edition of the same pic:

I also own a lot of older Games Workshop miniatures. These will go into the regular rank and file units. I have tried to split them up based on where I plan them to go. Again the plan is to have units with many different types of miniatures with only the Marienburg colours and the lion shields to hold them together:
Unpainted pics of my "specialty" miniatures:

    Crossbowmen (small dudes):

(these are too small to be mixed with regular modern miniatures.

    Random humans, villagers (very small):

(these are too small to be mixed with modern GW miniatures)

    Knights:

I also own Marco Colombo and some other characters..

    .......

I am also toying with a simplistic Army list for my Marienburgers. Instead of creating a full army list I have just tweaked and changed the existing Empire list.

    May not field:
    Steamtank
    Arch lector
    War altar
    Demi-griffon Knights
    Special characters fra The Empire
    Reiksguard Knights
    Helstorm rocket battery

    May field:
0-1 Giants (count as rare, rules from Ogre Kingdoms).
Ogres (from Ogre Kingdoms army book). Max 2 units in total. Core: Ogres and/or Ironguts. Special 0-1 unit af Leadbelchers. Eller: 0-1 Maneaters (never more than 1 special choice). Hero: Golgfag.
    Dwarfs:
Core: Warriors, Crossbowmen, Thunderers, 0-1 Miners, 0-1 Rangers) with the same restrictions.
    Special: 0-1 Slayer Units.
Heroes: 0-2 Thane (Hero, counts as Hero %). 0-1 Slayer Units.
Never more than 2 dwarf units in total in a Marienburger Army.
1 unit of Bretonnia knights (core) or footmen (core)?
The Units listed above does not count as regular allies or Dogs of War, as they are too well paid by Marienburg. Thus they are considered trusted allies and integrated part of the Marienburg Merchant Guild Expeditionary Army.

    more to come.... !

Have you read the tamurkhan book?
Lietpold the black is a mercenary general who would fit in your army aswell as mananns blades and the landship! That would be awesome as your armys centrepiece.

Lietpolds rules let him take any 1unit from brettonia ogres or dwarfs core choices. His army cant have any grandmasters priests steam taks or any named elector counts inc karl franz. Id just use his rules rather than make up your own

I like the special rule idea, but a Liepold is not really a Marienburger, but a mercenary and selfentitled Border Prince. I wouldn't like to restrict myself around him solely, as I like to create different armies for each battle. What I will collect is a full Empire force incl. Steamtank, War Altar and all that. But the army list I am toying with is for friendly battles and fun only.

However I do want to acquire this Liepold model to be my general under a different name. I just zoomed more into the model and his details and it is very fitting for my general model in some battles (when needed on horseback)..

    :-)

Lietpold is an absolutely great model, you could do a lot worse when selecting a mounted General.

I'll be keeping an eye on this, curious where it goes...
Check out my Mordheim scenery! NOW! I mean... Please... Only if you want to of course...
Get your ale while it's still hot! And discover why Stirland should rule The Empire...

Your ideas sound cool. The restrictions will probably give your army an excellent different vibe.
