    True Scale Echo of Damnation Warband (Nightlords) Uzas. Cyrion & Mercution with paint

    Having read the excellent work of AD-B, namely the Soul Hunter Trilogy I've been inspired to start a Chaos Warband to reflect the main characters in the books.

    At this point I don't know where I'm going rules wise or what 40k Army Im going to run them as when it comes to gaming. I just wanted to work my way through the key elements of the force first. Timeline wise I'm looking at between book 2 & 3, after Talos' & Co stole the Echo of Damnation. First Claw will be my first sub project, followed by the Bleeding eyes & the Chaos Dreadnought that also features. From there I'm going to let my creative side run things, before finally trying to fit the Warband into a set of rules that will suit them on the playing table.

    Having completed my first 40k army a few years ago with my beloved Blood Angels, I decided to go down the true scale root for my new project. I think the extra presence of True-scale marines fit the fluff much better than the standard figures I used for my blood angels. Plus having ventured in the realms of the Deathwtach RPG, I have practaced the art of True Scaling & was happy enough with this Foray.

    Any Way, here is my Work in Progress picture of Talos, Soul Hunter & Prophet of the 10th Company

    I've stuck him on a terminator base for the time being, but can anyone tell me what the 'tourney' rules are for placing truescale marines on terminator bases?

    Very nice work so far mate, you've definitely got the essence of the character in there - the colours look just right, the freehand mask and symbol on the helm are awesome, and Aurum looks the very image of a captured Blood Angel relic.

    I know it's not the Night Lords' way but some better lit pictures would still do him more justice!

    As for the basing issue, I'm not sure, I don't play tourneys myself and I have a feeling it could vary from one organiser to another. Basic rules wise, the 6th Ed Rulebook seems careful to avoid stating anything definitive, but I'll give you the quote here in case it helps you:

    Quote Originally Posted by 6th Edition Rulebook, Page 3

    The rules in this book assume that models are mounted on the base they are supplied with. Sometimes, a player may have models in his collection on unusually modelled bases. Some models aren't supplied with a base at all. In these cases (which are, in all fairness, relatively few and far between), you should always feel free to mount the model on a base of appropriate size if you wish, using models of a similar type as guidance."
    Not really much help. I think the issue is that people have abused variant basing in tournaments in the past (multi-assaulting for example), so if you really want to be careful you'd probably need to stick to 25mm, but unless you are planning on playing in tournaments I wouldn't let it stop you!

    Either that or you could model them so that you can swap them between the two... perhaps using magnets?

    Looks cool. I like how you've painted his sword and his helmet.

    Lovely work. I can definitely tell it's Talos, which is excellent. I'd love to see it on a white background with some proper white balancing.

    Can't wait to see what else you do with 10th Company.

    Re: True Scale Echo of Damnation Warband (Nightlords)

    Thanks for your comments Guys.

    Chrispcarter - Think im going to place the models on normal bases, but have the terrain hanging over the edge, to extend 'foot space' when & where required.

    Thanks Student - I'm very proud of the sword & took my time about it, having never painted a golden blade before. I'm not sure if I should paint lightning across it to show AURUM activated??? The Helmet is actual the helmet for the Metal Khane the betrayer model, with a few additions & subtractions.

    Hi Inquisitor Engel, Much appreciaited comments, I'm looking to set up a better photo station sometime soon & take some better pictures. However, my 16 month old daughter tends to have different plans.

    Anyway, prgress report -

    Here's some very WIP of the next member of First Claw. Mercution

    I've been cracking on withfirst claw, let me know what you all think.

    Cyrion - Tried to convey his sarcastic/mocking attitude in his stance, looking forward to painting this one in particular

    Urzas, with his flesh cloak, converted from a warrior of chaos & Chaos Marauder cloak. His crouched pose doesn't seem to translate that well into pictures. :-(, but he's ready to pounce with chainaxe & gladius in hand.

    Mecution, another WIP picture.

    Re: True Scale Echo of Damnation Warband (Nightlords)

    I managed to get a bit more done on this little project yesterday.

    Inspired not only by AD-Bs work, but also by the excellent commission work by Shane Cook, which can be seen here...
    http://aarondembskibowden.wordpress....by-shane-cook/

    Please see below, Cyrion, Mercution & Urzas with a bit of paint, about 80% done thus far. The flesh of severed heads needs to be done, along with bases that will tie the Army together. Currently thinking of basing them on Ship decking/ Industrial bases etc. Scheme's & poses have been adapted from the commission work & character discriptions within the Triolgy.

    Mercution;

    Cyrion;

    Finally Urzas, flayed cloak needs some love next.
