    Marine captain loadout advice?

    Hi all,

I'm planning on making a space marine captain with a jump pack to lead my assault squad and I'm bit sure what weapons to give him.

I had planned to just give him a relic blade bit now the rules have changed I'm not sure. The ap3 isn't the greatest but I don't want to sacrifice my initiative to a slower weapon. Do you think a storm shield is worth it?

    Any help will be great,

    Sprugly

From what I gather a Storm Shield and a Power Axe would be a good combo. If he is challenged then the SS will protect him and the Power Axe is powerful enough to cleave most things apart.

Lightning claw and power fist. They're both specialist weapons so you get the +1 and then you have the option of going at initiative with AP3, or at initiative 1 with S8 and AP2.

Doesn't that get a bit expensive having 2 special weapons like that. Is the versatility really worth it?

What about relic blade and storm shield?

If you're going to build and field a fighting Captain in 6th edition, you need to be prepared to fight and win in challenges, as well as carve through a number of models when not in challenge. Relic Blade&Storm Shield is a good looking combination that's good at carving through MEQ's, but suffers from the loss of an attack and lack of AP2. (Also, uh, you're complaining about the points cost of lightning claw&powerfist while suggesting relic blade&storm shield?) I'm going to have to agree with Freman Bloodglaive: your best bet is lightning claw and powerfist (and don't forget your artificer armour). You're only losing 1 point of invulnerable save thanks to the iron halo, the lightning claw will generally perform as well as the relic blade thanks to the extra attack, and the powerfist can hammer at vehicles and 2+ save opponents.

Why choose a power axe when a power fist does it better? Can you still gain the +1 attack from having a bolt pistol even though your holding a Storm shield? Surely not.

The storm shield states that you can never gain +1 attack for having 2 close combat weapons if you wield one.

I'd also give the captain a bike so that he can shrug off strength 8 and 9 hits (This is quite important) he also happens to move at the same speed as the assault marines so he shouldn't slow them down.
