Thread: fleeing from building

    fleeing from building

My opponent took heavy casualties from a miscast inside a building, where does he flee and how is it resolved.

My opponent thought because he could exit a building on any side he could exit the front and prevent himself from fleeing off the table. Is this legal?

    Re: fleeing from building

Good question. I looked up the rules and it only states that failing a panic test while in a building makes it flee as units loosing combat, placed opposite the unit assauliting.

The common sense would be of them entering the backdoor,in the front that has no enemies in front of it. Or atleast the door wich they enter in. I dident find a ruling though, so them exiting from the door away from enemies is just what troops fleeing a battlefield would do.

If he exists from the front, wouldent he have to wheel since the building is impassible terrain and hence make him not flee that far at all?

On page 63 of the BRB it gives the direction of flight for panic tests.

Panic brought about by heavy casualties: flee directly away from the unit that caused the most wounds that phase.
Panic brought about by any other reason: flee directly away from nearest enemy unit.

According to the FAQ, a miscast counts as "any other reason." They flee away from the nearest enemy.

Don't worry about the doors. They just pop out. They would be fleeing from the source of the panic. Since the source was the wizard miscast, the unit would flee from the closest enemy unit. (BRB pg 63) So the unit would be fless from the opposite side of the building measuring from the edge of the building. (BRB Pg 129)

Place the unit on the table in accordance with the rules for exiting buildings. This means placing the back of one of the rear-most models in contact with the building.

You are allowed to set the unit up in any formation you like, but I believe models may not be placed further away from the building than twice their Movement value.

As Moss says, facing may depend on the circumstances that made the unit flee in the first place. For example, if fleeing from an assault the unit will need to face away from the center of the enemy unit.

One small correction: The BRB FAQ updated the rules on abandoning a building to be that at least one model of the back rank must be 1" away from the building and no model may be closer than 1".
