    No Terminator game?

Being home sick with the apparently potentially deadly flu we have in Australia now, I watched the original terminator and started wondering about the existence of a Terminator wargame. Some half-hearted googling turned up nought but naff 90s boardgames. Does anyone know if there ever was one, or if it was ever considered?

Funny unrelated story regarding T1 from my youth, when my friends and I had to attend a school drug education session, the teacher was weirded out when upon mentioning PCP, we all simultaneously said "Broke every bone in his hand. Wouldn't feel it for hours" in a Lance Henrikson voice.

There were miniatures made by Leading Edge Games back in the 90s (they had the cool movie tie-ins back then. They did the Aliens boardgame as well - which had miniatures you could use if you didn't just want to use the cardboard standups - but they also did the miniatures and RPG for the "Lawnmower Man" movie franchise as well, so it wasn't all gold) of terminators and human rebels - but I don't recall any actual battle rules.

Well... GW has the Necrons and IG... With a little imagination and a cool scenario you can always go that route...

They did do a series of rules:

They were pretty involved, and mainly resulted in mankind's death. This was due to the fact the rebels had rifles, and the Terminators had armour specifically crafted to stop them – that and plasma miniguns

The rules had a fair amount of detail, and covered vehicles, various levels of skill (rookie and elite etc), and had quite a range of weaponry and Terminator types. Fun to pick up if you're interested, but personally I'd adapt something like Infinity or Necromunda for your Terminator fix.

Ah yes I remember those rules, never played them though, just gazed at them in Virgin Megastore and sadly wished I wasn't the poor kid.

There's these guys from EM4 too for Terminators http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/ROBOTS.html

Thanks for the great replies. Those Copplestone guys look strangely glum rather than menacing. Sad that they'll never be real boys?

Sigh. I guess I'll just have to remain playing rebels vs HK tanks in my dreams alone...

    Re: No Terminator game?

The Copplestone and eM-4 robots share a common ancestor. Mark Copplestone did both. The eM-4 ones were done for Grenadier miniatures in the 90s (new sculpts have since been added to the eM-4 lot). Mark Copplestone's current ones are a slight redesign of his older stuff (but he does this with a lot of his older ex-grenadier stuff, as well).

    Re: No Terminator game?

I did manage to Google up a pic of those Leading Edge ones you described, Chromedog, and they look a lot better. I bet they don't turn up on ebay very often. I saw also that Micro Machines used to make a terminator range, so it is possible to play Epic scale Terminator.

You could always look into tomorrow's war. There are rules for robots of all sizes and you can have human rebels from green recruits all the way up to hardcore vets. There are rules for vehicles, airstrikes and just about anything else you could think of.

    Re: No Terminator game?

I remember seeing the Terminator rules book many years ago back in the late 90's in the used bin of a game store. if you could find them it might be worth the time. Playing IG vs Necron with GW rules really does not give the superior power of the terminator force. Mankind was outmatched, not sure if outnumbered based upon timeline. Still it might make a good tactical game you have to think to win or at least survive.

    Re: No Terminator game?

While getting an actual, licensed set of Terminator rules sounds unlikely (probably hard to find for a decent price these days), there are so many good generic rulesets for modern and sci-fi warfare that I think you should just adapt an existing game to the Terminator setting. It really wouldn't be that tough and there are some "not-Terminator" minis out there. If you're willing to break from 28/30mm scale I know several of the 15mm manufacturers make some "not-Terminators" as well.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!
