I agree with the first post being a case of "above and beyond". It's a thing my local store does quite often but of course YMMV and just because one persons perception is different to another's as to what "above and beyond" is doesn't mean they're wrong..
My local store often gives black library books away when you purchase something over X amount. We're talking books that are meant to be destroyed. I consider that above and beyond because he could of ripped them up.
In regards to the fire prism post, in my opinion going above and beyond would be giving the customer the rest of the box (whether he does or not hasn't been stated). Because a staffer broke it and then eventually fixed it, I'd say that's common courtesy. The store probably just 'NO NOS'd the replacement item.
