Zoats were also present in the earliest editions of Warhammer's companion Warhammer 40,000 science-fiction setting, but have since been written out of the background.

They're still in the background. They were a slave-race of the Tyranids who showed up early trying to escape the Hive Mindand ended up being destroyed in the Zorastra-Attilla Wars. They have been designated Hive Fleet Colossus. Most of this comes from the 4th ed Tyranids book, but 5th ed also mentioned the fleet. There was even a shout-out to them in a WD with a make-your-own-monster article that pretty well sealed the deal as to what the studio was thinking about.

I was not joking. I AM confirming Zoats ... I have heard a solid rumour from someone ... I just can't remember what they told me and can not check my old notes. But Zoats are in the pipeline.

For Fantasy or was do the missing notes confirm them for 40k (being they are in the 6th ed rulebook)? Either way I would love to see them back in the current figure range. As it says in the Wood Elf novella "the time of the Zoats is approaching"

Zoats + Chaos is a bit meh. Can see FW doing a decent Zoat as a stand alone mage for use in SoM games / Monstrous Arcana scenarios.

Chaos Dwarfs too! I have to say that I hope GW goes the rout of stating that the supplements and books created by Forgeworld are to be considered 100% game legal not requiring opponent permission. It has been a great great step in the right direction towards the fun of the game.

For me too, but maybe they're just chaos zoats, not regular ones? If we have chaos humans, chaos dragons, chaos trolls, chaos ogres, chaos dwarfs, why not chaos zoats...

I would say they are more likely to be found in a HE book then a chaos one. It just goes too strongly against the established background, recent (SoM book) and historically (they were never a chaos unit).

Harry is doing some solid fence sitting on this p). Maybe they are part of a FW or GW SoM supplement release.

Zoats, dunno but I doubt it, dragon ogres, no. Despite their name and how they look like, they aren't mutated.

The Zoats should be one of the "old races" - those around since millennia before the Elves, when magic was raw and part of the fabric of creation. The sort of era that Aboriginal Australians refer to as the Dream Time. They should be reclusive and rare as snow in summer, only coming out when they instinctively know something "big" requires their attention. Great, near perfect for stand alone mages for SoM games. But Chaos? Really?

Can't see it, it's just so not in keeping. Why would Elves go to a Chaos beastie to learn the deeper intricacies of spell weaving? I know you can never trust an Elf, and I wouldn't put any depth of treachery past them, but still...

But, but Ihave this horrible vision of a marketing guy browsing through teh SoM book, then he sees the zoat entry:
"Hey, we're designing the dragon ogre plastic kits now? Where are we up to?
-Well the sculpts are about done, but we haven't gotten yet to the cutting up in parts. Why?
-I was thinking, those zoat dudes, they're pretty similar, no? How about a dual kit?
-A dragon ogre/zoat dual kit?
-Yeah, you got the heavy melee version with the d-ogres, and the zoat would be a mage unit, you know, kinda like the Horrors.
-My, my, that's a good idea. But the guys in the writing depts are gonna cringe, they're supposed to be kinda friendly to elves and stuff.
-They can rewrite the fluff, dunno, make a tribe of evil zoats. Chaos zoats!

Lots of chatter that WoC will drop in Oct or Nov. Prevailing birdies are telling me October is reserved for 40k, and Nov is WFB. However, I personally am expecting some switcheroo-ery, fwiw.

GW's annual report puts The Hobbit as a December release.

If its true that much of the lockdown on rumours was due to the design team being allowed behind the scenes of The Hobbit and absolutely not being allowed to show anything early, then December seems right as the movie producers won't want all this stuff to come out a month before the movie. Big December releases are unusual for GW, but in this case it certainly seems likely.

Re-reading the round-up has gotten me all excited. I recently acquired a couple of Chaos models from a friend (including the old metal Knights, much nicer than the new ones, shame I gave away my previous 5) and will keep them safe until the new book comes.

New Marauders were well overdue, so that will be tempting. Also, the sounds of mono-god builds possibly being an option, with a character to lead them and bitz for the Dragon Ogres and all that... Has someone finally beaten some sense into GW? It's about time we could really get to work with themed builds.

It all sounds absolutely awesome to my ears, and I don't even really like Chaos Warriors all that much... But that's mostly because of some of the current sculpts. Will be a cheap army to create for me though... And about time I acquired an evil army.

PS. Is there anything relating to the Daemons? Will they be an option to include? Or will that just be left to the allies portion of the rulebook? New Plaguebearers would be great inside a new Nurgle Warrior army...

Chaos Warshrine- This will be the big kit for the WoC and will be similar to what was released for the Empire in regards to their altar. It will be a large kit that has options for each of the Chaos Gods. The sculpt will be on the same base size at the war altar. (Birdy via Harry)

Zoat's for Chaos (once again) is indeed a rumor that I heard along with new monstrous cav for chosen style marked knights! ... Snip ... (Zoats are always associated with wood elves) ... Snip ... in truth Chaos could take Zoats back in 3rd Edition from the Slaves to Darkness & Lost and the Damned Chaos books. (TheDarkGeneral).

Zoats are awesome but they're very similar to Dragon Ogres UNLESS the rumour about a larger "more-rhino" Dragon Ogre is true.
