You only said 99 Ave Imperator's ?
Die Heretic Scum
those were Sister of Silence. Not SoB. Totally different (except all female)
I wouldn't mind them doing hb, then on to normal pb, but the intermediate version is annoying. I'm not sure what the norm is for books switching between the two. Is probably abouth 6 months, was Angel Exterminatus released in December?
I'm a few books behind anyway, so not champing at the bit yet, but wanted to make sure my shelves weren't disrupted![]()
Well... it's not a mistruth exactly since they are switching to trade paperbacks as the main print format, with the mass market taking a backseat. And the AE trade paperback format was released at the end of January, on time.

What is the difference between mass market and trade paperbacks?
(serious question)
Mass market is the current format for pretty much 80% of the books they put out. Trade paperback is the one for the Space Marine Battles novels, and for Darius Hinks' Orion: Vaults of Winter.

size and cost and amount they can charge
"Trade paperbacks tend to be
larger than mass-market paperbacks and the print/binding quality tends to be
better too. Both the quality of the stock used for the trade book cover and the
interior pages tends to be higher quality than mass-market.
According to
the Schmidt Kaye & Company FAQ, US the two common sizes for
trade paperbacks are 5.5 x 8.5 inches or 6 x 9 inches. For mass-market
paperbacks the traditional size is 4.125 x 6.75 inches.
Trade paperbacks
tend to cost more than mass-market (though less than hardcover) and are usually
released either between the hardcover and mass-market releases, or
simultaneously with the hardcover. Self-published authors especially tend to
release hardcover and trade editions simultaneously.
The size of the
print run also dictates the type of release to an extent as, according to the Small Publishers
Assocation of North America, mass-market publications can only be
economically produced in runs over 20,000. You can read more on their Book Printing FAQ.
I guess trade paperbacks get their
name because for people interested in collecting books the trade paperback with
its higher quality and smaller runs are more collectible/valuable. Firstly
because they’ll last longer and probably be more attractive and because simple
laws of supply and demand dictate that the smaller the supply
the more valuable the item.
Mass-market, as the name implies, is produced
on a much larger scale and intended to be sold in much higher quantities, at a
lower price.
By the way, to validate the characteristics identified, I
did a spot check of two (arbitrarily chosen) books on Amazon that have all three
editions (hardcover, trade, mass-market) available:
The Eye of
the World (Robert Jordan)
hardcover - 9.3 x 6.4 inches -
$19.77
trade - 9.2 x 6.1 inches - $11.66
mass-market - 6.5 x 4.2 inches -
$6.99
The Rainmaker (John Grisham)
hardcover -
9.6 x 6.5 inches - $19.95
trade - 8 x 5 inches - $11.05
mass-market - 6.9
x 4.2 inches - $7.99"

Ravenwing came out in the trade format as well.
Looking around Waterstones earlier, very few of the new release paperbacks were in the traditional mass market format, Black Library probably don't want their books to look cheap and nasty compared to Solaris and Angry Robot.
Ummm Boom!! http://www.blacklibrary.com/Blog/XIX.html Raven Guard love time.
Point of order: Solaris and Angry Robot currently use the B-format mass-market paperback size. These are not trade paperbacks.
Well i like the trade size. And i do not mind the odd difference on my book shelf providing it will fit on it lol. But it is slightly irritating that they've now decided to make us wait for the normal size paperback. When all we want to do is read the new books and once finished with them look at their pretty titles on the book shelf next to their predecessors. ^_^ its the only series i buy physical copies and shelf in my bedroom.I read other series but they end up in my bed side under drawers once completed. Or i just buy ebooks to read. Vulkan Lives is something i look forward to in November this year. Are there any other announced books in the heresy for this year? or did Re release of Angel Exterminatus count as one of the 3 a year?
Last 5 books read:
----
Shadows of Treachery / Dark Heart / Kryptos / Fear to Tread / Nocturne
[HH = 22/24 (Now Reading Angel Exterminatus)] [W40k = 10] [WF = 1]
Iam waiting for Gaunt Ghosts 'Warmaster' - it should be epic, and really want to see BL first try (again) with graphic novels 'Macragges Honour'. Hope it will not cost like 70 -100 $, even if autographed by Dan. In between - the only joy is 'Blighted empire'
