Re: Where I try to rediscover my enthusiasm for painting

    Happy Sunday everyone,

It's been a few weeks since I updated and seems as I have actually made some progress thought it was about time I shared a few pics.

I've been making steady progress with the Nurgle Warriors and Knights....

Haven't made any progress on the sorcerer but just to prove I wasn't fibbing when I said I'd made a start...

And to prove not everything is a work in progress...

These fellas are done apart from the bases which I'll be doing as a job lot when their mates are finished. Pretty pleased with how they've come out.

As always, comments and suggestions very welcome.

    Cheers for looking.

    Afternoon All,

Quick update. I've been slowly working my way through the Nurgle Warriors and Knights...

Warriors are done apart from finishing the bases and making a movement tray.

Just the nearly finished the Knights as well. Command group to do and bases to finish.

When these are done I reckon I'll probably get the sorcerer finished then move on to something different for a bit. Possibly some Empire.

    Cheers for looking

Re: Where I try to rediscover my enthusiasm for painting

    About time I updated this...

Nurgle Knights, Warriors, and Champion are completed apart from the bases (Run out of brown paint).

I've also added a few tentacles to Snail Monster

Going to have a bit of a break from Nurgle for a while and work on a few other things. First up I've made a start on a few Halberdiers to go with my Nordland cannon. Very work in
    progress at the moment...

Not got a pic yet but I'm also working on a converted standard bearer to go with them.

I feel I've got a bit bogged down in trying to paint whole armies at a time, and I've lost motivation somewhat. The plan now is to return to what I'd originally intended this plog to be and work on small projects...do lots of different things so I don't get bored.

Hope you like what I've done so far and as always comments, criticism and suggestions are always welcome.

    Cheers

That snail is incredibly creepy and evil looking not something I'd like to meet down a dark ally. Great work.

Great work on the nurgle force. I really enjoy how 4/5 ed didnt need massive units and loads of minis to play.

    Love the snail monster!

    Afternoon all,

Quick update now that I've finished the bases on the Nurgle models...

I'll be replacing all my old pics as well over the next few days. Photobucket can do one if they think I'm upgrading. Suggestions for a good image hosting site gratefully accepted.

    Cheers for now.

Very fine Chaos army there tcmainprize!

As for an image hosting service, I have been using Imgur. Not the easiest to use, but seems to hold larger photos.

    Cheers,

Re: Where I try to rediscover my enthusiasm for painting

    Hello Warseerers,

Time for a bit of an update. First up I've completed the Empire Halberdiers I was working on. 4 of them and a converted standard bearer.

Now for something a little more French...

I picked up a box of Victrix Napoleonic line infantry some time (years) ago when they were having a sale. I must have built two of them up to see what they were like at the time...anyhoo they were lurking at the back of my display cabinet so I thought they probably deserved some paint.

They are very work in progress at the moment. I must confess I'm finding them challenging to paint, currently I'm not overly happy but I'm reserving judgement until they're finished and based up.

Also I've been doing some bricklaying.

Don't know why but knocked these up on a whim last night. These I am pleased with and they took no time at all. They are made from blocks cut from hard polystyrene (the blue stuff). The blocks are roughly 10mm x 5mm x 5mm.

Thanks to Captain Brown, I'm now using Imgur for pic hosting.

    Cheers

Re: Where I try to rediscover my enthusiasm for painting

    Happy Sunday everyone,

Quick update. I finished painting up the wall sections. Really pleased with the end result and it's got me thinking about other terrain bits I could do.

Also I've finished the Napoleonic line infantrymen.

I'm much happier with these now I can see them completed. I did find them a real challenge to paint as they were unfamiliar territory painting wise. I think it will be easier next time I do some...and seems as there are another 58 in the box it would be good for these two to have some friends.

Comments and critique welcome as always.

Re: Where I try to rediscover my enthusiasm for painting

    Afternoon All,

I've been having a rummage through the various boxes of unpainted stuff I've got knocking about to see what I fancied doing next. Couldn't really make my mind up so fished out a few options...

    These as well...

The Dark Elves I built some time ago, and I believe they are referred to earlier in this plog. The 80's shoulder pads Troll has been mentioned earlier as well. I picked up 30 Black Orcs on Ebay very cheap back when they were still called Black Orcs. They arrived already assembled, badly. Stuck together before any mold lines were removed so they've been a nightmare to prep. The Chaos Dwarves are from Russian Alternative. I really like the models and they are very reasonably priced when compared to Big Hat GW models on EBay. All I've done so far with this lot is build prep and start priming.

As it happens I ended up starting painting these fella's instead of any of the above...

They are Black Tree Design Dwarf Hammerers. Not the greatest models ever cast but they do have a nice Oldhammerer look to them, and the fact they are quite simple models without masses of details will mean I'll get them painted pretty quickly...well quickly for me anyway.

    Cheers for looking.

    Hello Warseerers,

Quick update. The Dwarf Hammerers are finished apart from a banner. Not made my mind up what I want to do for that, maybe a viking theme given the horned helmets? Any suggestions welcome.

Made a bit of a start on the Dark Elves as well. Going for an old school blue and purple scheme with these. Very WIP at the moment.

    Thanks for looking.

Re: Where I try to rediscover my enthusiasm for painting

    Hello All,

Well 2017 is almost at an end so time for a bit of an update...

I've not been doing an awful lot of painting over the last few weeks but I have done a little more on the Dark Elves...

Also I've painted up a couple of Empire Halberdiers. I've done these as a leaving present for one of my staff at work. A few of us have been reading the Shardlake books by C J Sansom (Which I highly recommend) and Halberdiers cropped up. My soon to be former colleague didn't know what halberds were at the time so I thought these would make a nice gift. He'll never forget what halberds are now.

I'm actually really chuffed with how these have come out. Don't think I'm going to change from my favoured Nordland scheme for my own collection though.

On the subject of Empire foot soldiers, I might not have done a lot of painting but I have put together quite a few...

I've been having a really good sort out of my plastic/lead/resin pile (I even found some models I'd totally forgotten about) and have started planning what I actually want to keep. Having listed all my unpainted models I have 557, and that's counting things like warmachines and crew as 1, one of my New Year resolutions is not to buy anymore models. At the speed I paint that lot is at least 10 years worth. I'm defo going to selling off a fair few though.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year.
