We ended up playing Purge the Alien with Dawn of War deployment. Surprisingly we NEVER got a single turn of night fight the entire game haha. I managed to secure first turn. I set up cautiously behind cover but still close to the front of my deployment zone. My opponent set up his Tau in a gunline across his deployment zone.

    Turn 1:
My Raider rushed forward, moving flat-out for the 4+ cover save.
My ravagers moved up within 36" of his hammerheads and I tried to abuse nightshields with regards to his fire warriors. I managed to destroy one of the little drone turrets on one hammerhead and get a glancing hit to bring it down to just 1 hull point.
My reavers rushed forward and turbo-boosted over his crisis squad killing off one of the normal crisis suits.
My venoms all moved forwards a little and shot at fire warrior squads. I managed to kill off 4 warriors in one squad and he failed his leadership causing the squad to run off the board! FIRST BLOOD!! One of the warrior squads disembarked into some ruins.

My opponent stayed in a gun-line and popped most jet-pack units forward to shoot and then hide behind cover again.
His crisis squad shot an airbursting fragmentation grenade back at my reavers (I didn't know he had this beforehand ) and along with missile pods he completely wiped out my reavers since the AFG does not allow cover saves. Good move on his part though!
His stealthsuits destroyed my raider but the wyches and archon inside stayed 100% intact for the rest of the turn.
His hammerheads shot at my ravagers and only managed to immobilize one without any other damage.

    Turn 2:
My DE got a few muscle cramps this turn or something I think.
My archon and wyches split up with the Archon heading to charge the stealth suits and my wyches heading to charge close-by fire warriors. My wracks headed towards the shas'o commander who was the only crisis suit left after I gunned down his other crisis suit.
My ravagers blew up one of his hammerheads which ended up hitting my archon and some wyches. I didn't lose a wych to the explosion however my Archon took a wound (he split off from the squad) and I failed his 2+ invulnerable save (I'm not even joking when I say I pass about 10% of my shadow field saves, it's ridiculous)
Venoms continued to gun down fire warriors and stealth suits and another fire warrior squad failed leadership and ran off the board (just barely).
My void raven bomber came in and missed with both void lance shots.
This is where the epic fail started: My wracks rolled snake eyes to charge and were out of range, my wyches rolled a 7" charge through difficult terrain but because of overwatch the only models who were in charge range were gunned down, my archon rolled a 3" charge and was out of range but I decided to re-roll because of fleet and ended up rolling snake eyes! Seriously how do you fail SO MUCH in one turn!!

Well you can guess that my archon was killed because he lost his shadow field earlier and missed the charge. The wyches ended up being killed too. Wracks were the only unit in his deployment zone that survived his onslaught in the shooting phase. He still didnt' manage to do anything to my ravagers or venoms though thankfully

    Turn 3:
I managed to destroy his other hammerhead by removing all it's hull points with Dark Lances.
My Voidraven tried to do a bombing run but I scattered the full 6" and didn't hit anyone.
Wracks charged his commands and managed to cause a wound but lost combat and ran away.
After some more shooting this turn he was down to his commander, an 8 man squad of fire warriors and 4 stealth suits.

He managed to finally destroy one of my venoms and nearly killed a kabalite warrior squad but I went to ground and 1 warrior managed to survive.

    Turn 4:
My voidraven bomber automatically came back in and voidlanced his commander, instant killing it!
I gunned down almost all of his fire warriors and his stealth suits failed a leadership check from shooting casualties this turn running away.

He managed to rally his stealth suits but he had nothing left at this point. Needless to say I pummelled him with splinter cannons and dark lances until I tabled him on an eventual turn 6.

    Summary:
I didn't like how my Voidraven Bomber performed. It was crazy tough as a flyer with my opponent having no skyfire but I think I'm going to try a Razorwing Jetfighter next time as missiles should prove much more lethal.
I freaking hate streaks of bad luck. That was the worst turn I've had in recent memory by failing a shadow field save on my first wound against the archon and then failing 3 charge distance rolls, event with fleet to help me!!!
Nightshields were easily the MVP of this match for me (haha yes a 10 point vehicle upgrade won MVP). With being able to measure at anytime I can easily abuse nightshields and keep my ravagers save from things like pulse rifles, bolters and anything with less than 36" range. They are without question the best upgrade in the DE codex imo.

My next list will feature a razorwing in place of the voidraven but I would like to try the wyches/archon again to see them actually make it into assault. If I play a higher point game I'm going to try Eldar as allies and take a farseer for psychic powers.

Nice report, tough luck on turn 2 but at least you pulled a victory out in the end.

    Congrats on the win!

I have the same Archon luck except it usually happens on the Baron on the first round of saves he/she receives - hate it!

Nightshields - been using those since 4th edition and love'd them then and I love them now. People just couldn't grasp what the nightshields do when you are rushing the raider forwards. Man did I get into arguments over them but now people are trying them with complete amnesia and loving what they do to short range fire (not saying you but I am really glad you tried them and can see how they affect the game).

How was the overall performance of the Reavers - maybe I missed it but they bloodvaned on the first turn but then disappeared?
