New to 40K - 500 pt Escalation Tourney (Necrons)

    40K Army: Necrons
Hey guys need some feedback on a 500 point escalation list for an upcoming tournament.

1 Overlord, 225 pts (Warscythe; Phase Shifter)
    1 Catacomb Command Barge

5 Immortals, 185 pts (Gauss Blaster)
    1 Night Scythe

6 Warriors, 78 pts (Gauss Flayer)

    Total Roster Cost: 488

Any helpful C&C are welcome. Thanks.

Would a unit size of 5/6 be too small for a 500 point game with the mission "Purge the Alien"?

I can drop the PS and add another 2 Immortals.

Be careful...you've only got 6 models on the table until your night scythe arrives (if it arrives on turn 2 at best) If you don't get 1st turn you'll be taking 2 turns of fire until you have reinforcements.

I'd be more inclined to take an annihilation barge, overlord w/catacomb barge (bare) and you'll have some more points for warriors/immortals (squads of 7-8)

Found out I am either facing Blood Angels or Orks for my first game.

    Mission is Purge the Alien.

Tweaked a bit and came up with this. I lose the PS, Immortals, one warrior but gain an AB.

    1 Overlord, 180 pts (Warscythe)
    1 Catacomb Command Barge

    5 Warriors
    1 Night Scythe

    5 Warriors

    1 Annihilation Barge

    500 Points

    Helpful C&C is welcomed. Thanks.

Any suggested tactics I should use against either Blood Angels or Orks? Either of which I will be facing tomorrow.

I had my first game with my Necrons on Saturday night. Fought Blood Angels. He had:

1 Rhino with Lascannon and twin-linked plasma
1 Rhino with Lascannon and twin-linked plasma
1 Rhino with twin-linked assault cannon
    3 5 man tactical squads

    I had:
    Overlord on CCB with warscythe
1 Doom Scythe with 5 warriors
    1 5 man warrior squad
1 Annihilation Barge with Tesla Destructor Cannon

The DS wiped out one Rhino before it was taken out. AB took out the two other Rhinos. I Rammed the CCB into one of the tactical squads, HoW didn't do much. The BA squad broke by choice using "Combat Tactics". They then melta'd the CCB and next turn I charged the Overlord into assault with the BA tac squad. I could have used a Phase Shifter on him, he had to make a ton of saves in CC at 3+. He didn't die but they got him down to 1 wound. Game ended early due to him rolling a 5 on 5th turn. I won 7 victory points to his 2.

One major problem I noticed was that the CCB is very fragile. If you assault a squad, they are not considered "locked" in combat because the CCB is a vehicle and a squad cannot be locked in combat with a vehicle. What that means, the squad can easily walk away from the vehicle in their movement phase, shoot the CCB in their turn, and assault it. So if they have any meltas, it is going to be a bad day for your CCB. If you don't take the squad out with your HoW attack, then next turn will be lights out if they melta.

    Doom Scythe? or Night Scythe?

He had no HQ? Do you not need one for your little torny? If so then try making a list with out one. We have this little thing called Lunch Hammer going on at my local and I have been running the following with little trouble.

20 Warrior (we only need one troop)
    Ghost Arc
    Annihalation Barge
    Wraith

Apart from that your list looks good ve that BA army. But I also would consider droping the Night Scythe for another AB or more troops and your 2+ upgrade for your OLord. (wouldn't go with the 3++ save as it is way too much. You can get a whole wraith with one for less points.)
I'll think of something appropriate soon enough to put here.

Night Scythe. I keep those mixed up. I did well, 7 VP vs 2 VP. And we did not have to take an HQ. For next time, I am going to try and replace the CCB with something else. It has too many minuses and not enough pluses.

Just something to note, Blood Angels don't have Combat Tactics, only Codex marines have that.
