How much stuff have you got to paint?

Blurgh. Tons of unpainted stuff. TONS!

I've got at least a walk in closet filled with stuff still in boxes. More than I can paint in my lifetime. Too much stuff I want to build and not enough time to do it.

I recently got back in the hobby at the tail end of a bad relationship because it was one of those things that I really used to enjoy (Warhammer, not bad relationships). But post-breakup I've rekindled my interest in fitness and spend the bulk of my free time at the gym or the kitchen trying some new recipe.

I keep telling myself I'll work on Warhammer next weekend but wind up saying the same thing about the next weekend.

How much is too much?

With over 250 figures to paint I think ebay may be beckoning... but they are all so pretty!

In 3 armies I got a total of 180 unpainted models.

In my possession I got 23 painted. But all armies are newly built so I find 23 models fairly painted. Will be higher soon though. Almost done with 5 more.

I will probably put most of my time on my titan and chaos force.

I thought it was just me! When I split with my partner I spent loads of time painting. Managed to get the dwarves and O&G finished, in three months of pretty much continuous painting. Now that I'm over the break-up, my painting's slumped to almost nothing again. I'm starting to seriously dislike Felix and AoW though. It seems everytime I get near to finishing something, they release some fantastic new sculpt which I have to have. I'm dreading it when/if they bring out their dwarf army, I'm really pleased to have finished one finally. I just know that I'll buy more

I don't even know how many models I own, let alone how many are painted. I'm currently working my way through a Warriors of Chaos force, but I've got old school Brets, old school Undead, a mix of old school and new Orcs, Lizardmen, Dark Elves, the Dwarf stuff from Skull Pass, and then heaps and heaps of loose things (yeah, I fancy a unit of Dogs of War Desert Dogs ...) that I have no idea when they are going to be done. That's not even starting on the Lord of the Rings stuff, and next year I'll be getting a ton of Mantic stuff from Kickstarter. I could get it all out and count it but I'm not sure I'd have the space. There's also all of those projects I've got figures for but am not going to get round to for a while (old Dark Riders for converting to Tzeentch Marauder Horsemen, Swordmasters to convert into Tzeentch warriors or chosen, etc etc). Only a little of the Chaos stuff is painted unfortunately (like 50 models at the moment).

I think the easy answer is to much. The even easier answer would be lots. When I get back from work, I'll check the spreadsheet and see how much I have. Last time I checked it was aboutn 4.5k worth of models (thats actual models, not points) across everything.

I have some painted models, and every now and again I'll paint something. But I would guess that I have around 1000 unpainted models.

Going by the vast majority of posts, maybe the better question would have been "How many models have you actually finished painting?"

I always make an army list and then buy it... this leads to mammoth painting jobs that sometimes get finished and sometimes, well, don't.

Art is never done.

Although I've got some 100+ minis with paint on them, I only have about 10 that are now "finished." And in a year or so if I've improved as a painter, I'll want to come back to those ones too.

Currently about 360 bases painted in total, bases means even an Arachnarok is just one base, stripped and sold about 500. This means I was already over 50%, more like 90% at the time but decided the paint job was in dire need of an overhaul. This also makes me confident the backlog will be gone in time. Allowing for about 100 minis to chose from what will be next, because I do somehow like the possibilities.

EDIT: About 75 metal dwarfs are painted but were counted towards stripped because in my mind they belong on that pile.

Maybe I should try to do some kind of inventory, but that will only make me sad.

1000 painted? That's pretty crazy, but not all that surprising I suppose when you think of people owning multiple armies

Me, I am on my fifth Space Marine army (not including 2k of Chaos Marines from 3rd edition), and despite my plans to never start another one, the urge is growing to do an Iron Hands pre-heresy army once the current project is closer to completion.

Fantasy armies of course add to the model count much faster, as units are generally 30-50 strong now. Dogs of War and Wood Elves are more or less done, but I still have tons of models for both that I could paint if I felt like it. And then there's the large Empire and Tomb Kings with minimal paint, my 2k+ of Warriors of Chaos that are mostly painted (again another couple dozen guys in boxes, plus a massive cache of metal characters and Demon Princes), some starter sets worth of High Elves (1 lonely Swordmaster painted!). Oh and Dwarfs. The front ranks of that army plus a couple characters and war machines are done... but still a drop in the bucket. And when I find more rare metal ones I usually buy them...

Oh, and a bajillion single figures have been bought over the years as one-off painting projects. Many of them get about 90% painted then I randomly stop for a few years until I get sick of looking at them. Then they will occasionally get the attention they've been longing for.

As far as my chances of ever painting all this stuff up? Let's just say that I've been sitting down to work on my Word Bearers for the last few weeks, and I've managed to assemble and paint a handful of Raven Guard and built a squadron of Aeronotica scale Thunderbolts. Armies tend to never get finished

Wow, I´m quite impressed with the answers here, as I had no idea people had such huge collections and even worse painting ratios than myself! I feel far less guilty now, thanks guys!

I have around 60% of my miniatures painted and roughly 150 still unpainted ones, which should, however, rise to 200-250 unpainted ones when all my last purchases arrive. But I fight hard against the tendency of buying too much without painting.

That's what happens when you work for GW. I'm still painting the huge amount of stuff that I bought there when I was a key timer 15 years ago! Of course Ebay doesn't help either

I feel your pain - there are many unpainted models in my collection from my time as a key-timer 15 years ago as well.
