The idea is that you buy it now and save money. In the next edition of the TK book the BSB is an OTT auto-win that makes the K'daii destroyer look like a squaling baby. Buy it now befor they increase the price to 100$ each.

It would have been odd if it was two on foot/steed. But as it is sold the only issue would be that I have to buy both at the same time. And the price, always the price.
Maybe its a subtle way of gw saying "don't buy this models!!"
I have yet to buy a finecast model, and I'm sure others have mentioned it in countless thread, raising a price on something that was already bit pricey is.... weird![]()
Well, it's a classic so clearly it's the vintage quality you're paying for.
That's a very good point. They should put the two together. You know what, I wish they would always do that, for any option that can be mounted or not. I wish there would be a mounted and an unmounted Wurzzag in the same box, for instance. And why would I prefer that to two separated blisters? Because that way I'd be sure I'll have to versions of the same dude, not two versions of something vaguely alike that may not even be sculpted by the same guy.
That was my two cents.
TheDungen: yeah it's neat. Only problem is that you autofail your stupidity test when you remove it, so you also need a smart bib™. The iBib version from Apple comes with a USB connection, I recommend it.

Urgat's Armory v0.3 [Blood in the Badlands Siege options]
Why does any of this matter? Very few people run Heralds of any stripe and their uses are extremely limited (even for a Tomb King unit). Now if this were a fresh, cool-looking Herald, we probably wouldn't even be having this discussion to begin with. There are enough people who would buy, paint or maybe even field an awesome looking, yet subpar miniature (myself included) but no way in hell I'm fielding something that both looks and performs like garbage simultaneously on the TT.
That would be interesting. Only three times in my life have I only once had the pleasure of finding a "bulk sale" option being more costly than a "per unit" option. It was a gas station where a one-and-a-half litre bottle of Coca Cola (R) cost more than three half-a-litre bottles. Coinciding with this was my intention of buying at no less than one-and-a-half litres of Coca Cola (R).
So: No, it would not be worse from a purely economical point of view.
However, sometimes I discover the value of certain troops choices by accident or circumstance. Such as the time when I was getting my Orcs & Goblins army ready for a scheduled game, and showed up with the "reject" pile of my army instead of the half that I had picked for the battle. I made an army out of what I had brought, and it was the first time I actually had to use Orc Arrer Boyz.
And they totally rocked!
I'm not saying that GW is flawless, but consider this:
If your only tool is a hammer, then any problem will look like a nail. And if you got the tool for any problem, why bother getting new tools?

I think its kind of weird that they bothered with putting such a dated model through as finecast. It's even weirder that they'd try charging $61 for it.
But having a mounted and foot version of the same model? Nah, that makes sense to anyone who ever chops and changes their list from game to game. It's strange to me that someone with cavalry and foot options wouldn't have one version of each for their BSB.
I am going to agree with the original poster. I do think it is weird to have two BSB models packaged together. High elves and empire both have duel lord/hero sets with the option to be BSB, which makes more sense (also, plastic models).
Limiting what the box can be is an implicite handicap on sales, even before considering the less popular army.
Then again, how many BSB is a player going to buy for his army? One. In his entire lifetime. Forcing the player to buy two is effectively doubling the revenue. And then they can cash in again in a year's time when they release an absolutely stunning kit worthy of 2013 standards.![]()
Its just the way things are headed,be resourceful ,convert find alternatives,or just give up or alternatively suck it up!Picture 5 years from now.....
Alternatively it could decrease overall sales, much in the same way that price increases elsewhere put people off from buying anything at all. As a random example I would buy one or two land raiders if they were $40 a piece, but at $60 dollars I won't buy any. Rather than increasing revenue by 50%, they decreased it by 100%.
Man you can find a whole 1000 point army on ebay for 40 bucks! I love the mounted and foot packs, but they usually cost under 20$ It's how I stocked up on heroes for my vampire counts. for 40 bucks you can convert from a box of tomb guard. I hate to jump on the "price" band wagon. But holy hell man, holy hell....
But that's not true. What kind of a hobbyist would buy a single BSB, either on foot or mounted, and say 'that's it, I only ever need to field one BSB in a game and so that's the only BSB I'm ever going to field, and I'm not ever going to change that.' People change there lists up from game to game, tournament to tournament, and that is likely to mean changing up how their BSB is deployed.
Now, the price and finecasting a really dated couple of miniatures, I can see why people would complain. But the idea of getting two models in a kit, when only one of the two can be used in a single game - that's not a complaint. Redundancy is variety.
They have been doing the foot and mounted thing for years now. I suppose bar the price its a great chance to have both so if you have an army where you cant decide where to put you hero/lord. You have two options at least, I dont really see the problem to be honest...
