    Codex CSM

I was going to post this on the other thread but it got closed, so ive made a list of what models the CSM players can expext, note that i dont know if these will all come at once or in waves, some of these (or click fit varients of them) are in the starter box.

Note also that ill not be adding rules or updating this thread in anyway so that will be up to you guys.

I'm expecting the codex to hit late October or early November (depending on if the rumour that the wfb WoC army book isn't out till feb 2013 is true or not - I'm still expecting that book in October)

    Upcoming models:-

    Raptors (plastic 2 types)
Dread looks like an angry obliterater on roids!
Obliterators look good but not as good as the "mauler" CC version
    Dragon flyer is ok
Two deamonic Centauroid cannon things a bit iffy
    Warp smith
    Apostles
    Cultists
    Some odd walker thing
New csm marines (could be recut with added bits? Either way I didn't recognise them as current ones - but then again my 40k fu is weak!)
    Chosen very nice too

GW seems dead-set on not getting any money out of me this year. It's quite an effort but they are managing.
Of all the threads in all the forums in all the world you had to post into this one.

Thanks Hastings! It's a letdown that either A) plans changed or B) the sources of information were putting their own spin on things.

Anyway it looks like Chaos players have a lot to look forward to. Sounds like Chaos SM may be getting some artillery!

No new and updated plastic cult troops... No cult terminators... Dreads aren't dreads anymore... "centauroid cannons"... Go to Hell GW. Seriously, go to Hell.

We all know your going to buy the new stuff as soon as it is released anyway. Either that or your only reason to look into this thead is to complain, in which case you might as well have saved your energy to do something constructive.

    Thanks, Hastings!

Kind of unimpressed with what seems to be the running theme on these releases. Someone should probably tell GW there's already a Codex: Chaos Daemons.

Well, their origins lie in rec.games.warhammer, from which they were developed further first by the IGCOM mailing list before being completely revamped for the first forum-based Warhammer communities.

I don't think GW's ever revealed their pre-usenet history, although presumably the letters section of very old White Dwarfs is involved.

It seems your only reason to enter this thread is to display a holier-than-you attitude and not to comment the news and rumours, in which case you might as well have saved your energy to do something constructive.

    Re: Codex CSM

Ugh, this thread is off to a good start. I'm just as kean to get my marines, but people need to relax a bit.

I'm curious about the dreadnaught; how much detail are you able to provide Hastings? When I hear roided up oblit, I picture something closer to a contemptor dread with 'chaos' growths on it.

You also make it sound like obliterators are getting brand new models, including the 'mauler' variant.

Also getting the vibe that chosen are going to be their own thing now.

The chaos marine thing is throwing me; the kit isn't that old, and does the job nicely. Do you remember seeing a larger balance of heavy weapons, a la havocs maybe?

All the demon engine stuff sounds cool to me, really looking forward to this release, even if patience is required!

    Re: Codex CSM

I don't think there's much need for the moaning, as Harry says these are just rumours, my understanding of these models may not be how they actually function etc in game. This is one of the reasons I've not posted much in the way of rumours for a while (besides leaving the hobby) the way people are ready to complain about stuff before they've seen or used it themselves is pretty ridiculous, and quite frankly makes me understand why gw are the way they are with rumours.

I'll add that if I were still collecting I'd be happy with some of this stuff.

    Re: Codex CSM

My understanding is the Obliterators are a new plastic kit that includes the CC mauler variant options.

    Re: Codex CSM

And that says a lot; from what I understand, Hastings is a bit of a model snob not a bad thing certainly, but the fact that he says he'd be pleased by this stuff is good enough for me

EDIT: finally!! Plastic obliterators! Youre a gentleman and a scholar!

    Re: Codex CSM

It seems GW are taking CSM down memory lane and going back to the roots so to say, with more of a focus on 'Chaos' as warped daemonic stuff like in the RoC material, and less on the 3ed (which started in 2ed) focus of Chaos = Marines with spikes.
Dreads being more organic made me cast a glance at my old RT era CSM dread, which is wholly organic in design, and the old 'Renegade' models didn't really look like marines at all. With a new walker daemon engine, human cultists and more Obliterator-type units, I think CSM armies will look a lot more disturbing and warped in the future, and not have the relatively clean look of today.

And I can bet that "Dark Apostles" will be expanded to include all sorts of prophets of chaos, not just the Chaplains of the Word Bearers. So everyone who wants a Mouthpiece of the Gods in their warband can have one, no matter if they play Nightlords, World Eaters or Word Bearers. I just hope they are beef enough to make a fitting leader for a warband, and not just be a nifty sidekick like the SM Librarians/Chaplains are.

    Re: Codex CSM

Thank you for the rumours (and the sad news that you have left the hobby which I wasn't aware of )

I am looking forward to all of these, it just means I will have to hold off for a bit to see whether we do get new basic CSM or not as I would hate to buy the current ones and nice new ones come out. These new releases plus the new deamons make me very happy.

I refuse to comment about finecrap - in my world it doesn't exist! (there are obviously characters too, and they're I'm finecrap! - iirc new Kharn the betrayer is one of them)

WoC = warriors of chaos (wfb). The Centauroid weapon things are for the CSM range and as such aren't a hellcannon (also hellcannons aren't Centauroid they're just big cannons, Centauroid usually refers to four (or more) legged with an addition of a torso & arms etc.

Doing something constructive like posting "Go to Hell GW. seriously, go to Hell?"
