Thread: Codex CSM

    Re: Codex CSM

I think this release might be anything but conventional for GW - from the looks of it CSM will be the first part of a massive overall Chaos release as an attempt to re-establish it as the single big baddie of both universes. This is probably going to be huge.

    Re: Codex CSM

Announcing a release in a magazine that comes out one week before release isn't exactly extensive marketing. It was different a year ago: I would say it was more effective because they gave a 2 month window of what was coming out.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: GW has been doing "stealth releases" for a good year now.

And they have always tried (or at least made it seem like they are trying) to be stealthy about their releases.

Yes, but not once have they released anything that wasn't showcased in White Dwarf and there is nothing substantial to assume that they are suddenly going to change this.

And saying that peoples ideas re-thematic armies are too rigid and you say that???

The mantra is "freedom to chose what you want is good" is just so annoying when items that really should be available are simply not.

If I do really have freedom to choose, I choose berzerker terminators.
Not a "almost" or a "lite" but exactly that.

People deride 3.5 as a "straightjacket" book, but at least you had the choice to wear it or not.

    QFT
Alpha Legion technically don't even use cultists; they use cells. The humans they use tend to be a lot better behaved and trained compared to the slaves/zealots of other legions.

    Also QFT.
They want to sell WD. Everything that they release will be in that magazine, or at least mentioned in the case of finecast waves.

    "Gamesday" <_< ???

its happened before im sure they might pull it off again

what im trying to say is that you should be optimistic and not pessimistic think on the bright side if they do this they are trying to minimize people such as "us" from finding out what will be coming out beforehand minimizing leaks and if anything its a smart thing which will benefit them if they are to keep the starter set the show of the party for the first part of the month and im hoping that this is the case

i don't care if people tell me "don't get your hopes up" i will and im sure many will, when we have rumors this good that are givin to us by wonderful people such as "harry" and "hastings" who have a great track record who have said that this is the month im gonna be like YAYA sure ill be skeptical but it gives me hope that so many are saying the same thing and even hearing from my own GW manager over hear in Antarctica <_< lololol that he was told that the starter was coming as well as a NEW CSM codex then yah im gonna go with, why in hell would they lie to a GW manager and why are others saying that their local store clerks are saying this as well

i want to believe and thats what im gonna do im not saying you should too, but why be so against it when we have been clearly told by so many that it is coming!

And what exactly has been released at Gamesday that they didn't show in White Dwarf??? All that I am aware of is the gamesday miniature which they now show months in advance. The Dark Eldar were first shown at Gamesday, but they weren't released untill months later. If people were to say that GW is going to show the CSM at Gamesday and then release them in october/november, than that would sound a lot more plausible.

and that could be the case which i would be happy with

but! yet again alot has changed with GW and they could pull something out of the ordinary on us especially with what we are hearing from alot of rumor sources, so i understand what your saying and i totally agree with you but sometimes its ok to expect the unexpected after all its CHAOS we're talking about over here

    Re: Codex CSM

Just a thought. WD is normally out on the penultimate sat of every month which means {after the one out this week} it should be out on the 22nd sept? Games day is the following day, the 23rd sept. So if they appear in that WD. They are available to buy at GD and are released a week later. That way GW has there big GD release and it would fit with the rumours of chaos being out in sept. Anybody think that makes sense?

    Re: Codex CSM

I wish it did, but th last saturday of the month is the 30th, and thats the way the WD releases have worked since befor i strted subscribing again, so I doubt it. But I do expect a full preview of the range at games day at least

The stronger crackdown on leaks and the emphasis on stealth may have something to do with the legal issues between GW vs CH. It goes to the heart of being beaten to market. In the past, for example, GW talked about releasing the wolves for Space Wolves to ride as cavalry LONG before they became available. Other companies made some and got them out there. This naturally cut into their sales. If you don't release anything until two weeks before you release it, you will always have the jump on anyone else attempting to "after market" you.

True, but it doesn't help if the unit is described in a book months before its miniature is released.

I think the point people are failing to realize is, GW has NEVER been consistent enough in ANYTHING to claim that they could NEVER do something. They could release a second "bonus" sept WD mid-month with the codex release. They could release the book but save the miniatures for October. "The battle continues" from the back of the WD, despite being just a DA, could indicate both books being released in the same month to "continue the battle" that began in Sept with the starter box. No one really knows.

They only thing we can do is wait for 9/1, and if the book is coming on 9/8 as some rumors are stating, we should see the pre-order.

    Re: Codex CSM

Not to mention, if they were circumventing White Dwarf on new releases, why would the starter set be in there? Sorry drbored, but the fact is that it just isn't looking likely that CSM will get a Codex in early or mid-September.

I know people on the internet love their hyperbolic statements, but that doesn't make it true. GW has been consistent in their marketing and release policy in the past 12 months. Before that they used to have a very consistent marketing strategy where new releases were announced 3 months in advance and up for preorder on the website a month in advance. People can rant about GW never doing anything logical all they want, but their marketing has been pretty consistent.

You could use your argument to claim that there is no way to know for sure that GW won't announce within a weeks time to step out of the miniatures market and start producing computer games. Sure it seems highly unlikely, but then again, you never know with those crazy people at GW right?

WS and BS3 is damned elite. These guys are evidently not your average bunch of local loonies, so should be good for AL.

Regarding C:CSM being out in september, isn't the next WD due on the saturday 22nd? It's not the early to mid september that some people have been saying, but it is still september.
