Thanks for the rumors Hastings.
I look forward to seeing the Maulers, hopefully their rules live up to their name.
If brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough.
The way I've always imagined CSM (rightly on wrongly) is as once just space marines but now something else, something more than just superhuman soldiers, they entreat with and worship gods with all sorts of wacky powers it seems only logical that they'd be rewarded for their worship and aided by those gods whether that be assisted on the battlefield by deamonic legions or by knowledge to dark technology/magic mix that they could twist into new weapons/armour etc.
I'm quite happy that they're focusing more on them not just being SM with spikes on.
I know you are more on a fantasy side of things, but do you have knowledge on how much focus has been given to Legions in the upcomming codex (not necessarily only from a miniatures perspective)? Legions - especially those dedicated to the big four - are a big thing for many players and most want to see an expansion of possible marked units.
A new video is up on the GW site, announcement on the 28th, looks like it could be CSM....
It's not pronounced "ass-tarts" silly
Check out my Mighty Empires Campaign rules and drop some suggestions:
Since loyalist Space Marines can get a better invulnerable save via a free piece of equipment than the guys who dedicated their life and soul to Tzeentch (who was established as pretty much "the god of invulnerable saves" in the Daemon codex), this way of thinking obviously isn't shared by the game's developers. *sigh*
Whatever dedicated Chaos Marines can do best, some loyalist Marine can do better and I highly doubt that that will change again with the new codex.
I'm not even sure whether I should wish for it to change, since all that would do would be to further crank the power spiral. On the other hand, that will happen with or without a powerful CSM codex. What else could GW do at this point to make people play Vanilla/Ultra Marines again than to give them even more powerful stuff and options than they gave Grey Knights, Space Wolves and Blood Angels? They have created a situation in which there is no other way anymore than to constantly increase power levels to entice people to play the newest Marine codex.
Already being discussed here. Confirmed as Chaos Deamons

If these rumors are true this will be fantastic for 40k. I have always wanted to see Chaos Marines be more then just "Evil Marines with worse gear". If they get a whole slew of demonic war engines and tonnes of new units that are very much NOT Space Mariney then I will be super happy. Looking forward to the release and thanks for the rumors!
Not coming out for a few months makes me sad, but it gives me time to reach my goal of painting as much of my existing stuff as possible
Thanks Hastings, looking forward to it. I'll be interested to see how these new Obliterators turn out, in particular.
@Hastings: Agreed, and the new units may provide some much-needed explanation as to how Chaos SMs are armed in the first place, and how they travel from warzone to warzone. Without the Dark Mechanicus and their insane creations none of it would be possible. Expanded background in this area has been badly needed.
I dont know i like csm as archaic space marines. So the fact that they're releasing new standard CSM seems liek my que to buy loads of the old variant just in case the new ones suck.
I can back Hastings up somewhat here. My moles in GW reported that there was a new close combat unit. Like cc obliterators. Both builds looked lovely. I've been informed that they are going to be two to a box. This reminds me if an older rumour that they'd go up to a squad size of six. It seems odd for two to a box with the current size of three.
The dark apostle is very nice.
As for the dread I've heard nothing.
So I was playing my second game of sixth edition yesterday. My dread in his usual style proceeded to kerb stomp my own army. I wistfully and nostalgically remember the days when I could possess your dreads which you can't do now.
Perhaps the roided up dread might be a model to represent a possessed dread. I can't imagine they'd invalidate regular dreads. Let's not forget Hastings stated he was only talking about models. No need to panic that our expensive forge-world dreads have been invalidated. I expect the more basic dreads with still be viable.
I'm quite excited by the rumour of the other daemon engined. Centauroid cannons sound great. How many can I have? Are they in squadrons. That'd be cool.

Blah. It's like I'm a little foreign boy, and I've heard rumors of Santa when I moved to the US, this big man that brings awesome presents on the 25th of December. Then, suddenly everyone is telling me Santa won't be coming till the end of February. Some great all-powerful Santa.
The model list looks good. I like what I'm seeing. I'm looking forward to things that will differentiate from the regular Codex: Space Marines (and friends). After all, if Space Wolves can have Long Fangs and Blood Angels can have Death Company, then it's about time Chaos got something bright and flavorful.
Any news on a flier model, how it looks, is it daemonic engine or fighter, etc?
Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

I also like the idea of new plastic basic chaos marines - the basic ones while not as bad as the 3rd edition dark eldar warriors - certainly look pretty dated and saturday morning cartoon villain-esque, nowhere near as cool as they -could- look. It would be nice to have new chaos marines that look on par with the modern troop choices (SW, deathcompany, immortals ect) being released.
Marines, of all varieties, have always been a different animal for gamesworkshop then every other army. They are the best selling model line amongst all platforms, both fantasy and 40k. If it looks like a marine, smells like a marine, tastes like a marine, or feels like a marine it is going to sell and sell well. They want you buying the newest thing to continue sales momentum and why would they not?
The same is true for fantasy but they have taken a new track there. Instead perpetuating a power creep they have introduced internal and extrenal balance centered on new releases. This keeps old players buying the new toys as they are the strongest in the book and new players buying what they would normally buy. The newly released army books are likely weaker then the top tier of the previous eddition but they can still compete, and when balanced against other newly released army books they are all quite comperable. If they will go with this model for new 40k releases is yet to be seen, but it is a very viable alternative to power creep.
"New CSM Marine Models"... Could there be an intention to make this kit similar to the DA Veteran Sprue, and that you are supposed to use SM Devastators for heavy weapons?
bok has some new rumors up as well on their site. just posted today.
