Remvoing the Glossyness of Varnished Models

After spraying a model with gloss varnish, how do you make it normal coulored again? In the past I used a spray on matt varnish which worked fine for a few models, but it ruined some others so i stopped using that. I got a bottle of humbrol matt cote but it just makes them even more shiny. I have looked for testors dulcote but everywere is either out of stock or has a rediculus postage cost.

Is the new testors dullcote still a good choice? Are there other alternatives that work just as well, and completely remove the glossy look? I'm after a brush on, no more sprays.

    I'm in the UK btw

    Thanks

Dullcote is great, never had issues with it.

Testors is still my choice. I've heard good things about Army Painter ones though.

Postage is not so much of a problem if you combine it with an order of other stuff (or more varnish ). Look for sites that offer free shipping over a certain order value...

Ok thanks, does anyone know anywere that stocks it and has reasonable prices? I looked at the places I know but they all had huge postage, even on large orders.

Testors, although great, is a royal pain to get in stock, well, in the UK at least. I have been waiting over a year to be able to order more.

postage cost is high becuase you cant just send sprays by normal mail.

i would just do some tests with other spray varnishes, just remembeer that as always, never varnish when its cold or wet or it goes all chalky.

You can, but not standard mail, needs to be sent trackable. hence higher postage.

Varnish it with the glossy stuff. Iits way more resilient from what I heard.

Then apply a thinned down (1 to ratio of water / matt varnish). Removes all the shine promply and you get a reallty good varnished miniature.
