As a fellow 'Truescaler' I can understand how slow moviong a project like this can be.

you've produced some excellent, fluid looking sculpts that are an inspiration... (meaning i'll be stealing few ideas for my own band)

Keep up the good work, your time & effort is reaping some great rewards already.

Re: The Tyrants Claw - Red corsairs

Thanks for all the replies guys

@Atia: cheers dude, now Valthex he would be interesting to make and would give me an excuse to actually buy the tech marine model that I've loved since it was released Consider him added to the to do list

@Mrtn: Cheers sir, haha its chaos anything goes nah the barrel is drilled out just rather shallowly. I need to get my act together and get some bigger drill bits to replace the ones which broke

@Space Monkey: Thanks dude the one thing I will recommend to you is the spce wolves sprue. Been using them as the basis of these guys with a few other parts and helmets mixed in not only do you get the mass of power weapons but a lot of the legs are in better poses than your standard tac marine. Most of them generally being far more upright, it kind of suits the truescaling process

I know what you mean with the slow moving, some times a weeks work of GS work looks like nothing but with these guys I'm trying to keep a slow and steady pace instead of rushing them, I don't really game very often anyway so its not like i need them finished anytime soon

Don't worry I'll be pinching a few ideas from your log too........Corsair counts as obliterators with looted weapons for example

Well the next corsair isn't finished painting wise as work and real life have intervened. The most annoying thing is the fact he is very close to completetion needing just a few extra touches. I have wednesday off though so shall hopefully get him sorted then.

However I have another question for you guys. For the corsairs I wan tto make a unit of human/mutant pirates as both a modelling project and to act as a meat shield. I've been thinking up some ideas for them as well as looking on ebay for a few useful bits. Do you guys think mixing in the odd Scavvy and Escher from Necromunda would work?

Again thanks for all the replies guys

The new starter set should be released in a few weeks and will reputedly include chaos cultists. I'd wait and check how those look before finalizing the meat shields.

Feel free to raid any ideas you se on my blog mate, no doubt I've already lifted them from somewhere else... Ie Daemon Dan on bolter & chainsword.

The Space wolves sprue is definately an excellent addition for truescaling purposes, used a couple of parts on my sculpt of Cyrion.

Good shout for your meat shield. Have you thought about the WFB Empire Flagellants sprue? some nice heretic parts mixed in there that combine nicely with guard parts.

Re: The Tyrants Claw - Red corsairs

@Space monkey: Ah another man to lift inspiration from Dan the Daemon, hes who inspired me to have a crack at the whole truescaling thing too
I do have some flagellents knocking around that I can lift some parts off. I was thinking of pinching a few bits from empire militia too, well mainly torsos for the whole rag tag look.

@Mrtn: I shall likely be picking up the starter set just for the cultists, I just want to mix in a few other models for variety so will likely go with a few IG deserters still in parts of their old uniforms, mutants might even throw in the odd xenos. I did manage to win a Necromunda Scavvy Scaly on Ebay to put into the unit for a decent price, just a case now of waiting for pics of the starter set to leak :P

Right its update time, I've managed to get the next corsair painted up:

Spotted a few bits and pieces in the picture that need tidying up but overall I'm rather happy with him.

just another 4 to go and I will have completed a squad, that in its own right is an achievement for me the next 2 to be painted are pretty far on conversion wise, one of them being a heavy bolter marine whose head will be the result of my first experiments with instant mold.

As ever guys let me know what you think

I don't recognise the original Chapter symbol, enlighten me Simon?

Good call on the Scavvy, which one is it? I'm tempted by the more "recent" ones but the older ones do have bags of wacky character as well.

Don't forget what I said about the Grot weapons, they'll be great inspiration for whatever mish-mash weapons you want to give your meatshields!

Re: The Tyrants Claw - Red corsairs

    Cheers guys

@Sacredboltgun: Im on the home straight with this squad dude so work is actually progressing quite quickly

@Mr Feral: Why thank you sir, he is a chapter called the dark eagles i think... its a random one i picked out of an old space marine collectors guide I found. I shall post the Scavvy below he is a beas of a model standing as tall as a marine, might put him on a 40mm base and have him with a heavy weapon

    So Scavvy for Herr Feral:

And also seen as I was using the camera here is a WiP of the next corsair:

The drum magazine and pouches are the results of experimenting with instant mold, must say it does cut down the amount of time needed sorting out pouches and the like. I hope to get the GS work finished on him tonight and then shall try and get him painted up over my days off

Having just seen the leaked pictures of the new 40k starter I think the future is looking bright for the corsairs. Hopefully the dark angels will be useable too with some converting, I guess I'll have to wait till pictures of the whole set are up.

Re: The Tyrants Claw - Red corsairs

@Gonzo: Ah my alcoholic nemesis you abuse me even here :P and how generous

Well heres a quick update mainly to prove to that villainous Mr Feral that I have actually been working on some bits and pieces. I think its me who should be nagging him really :P

So here is a very WiP heavy bolter marine, his helmet is the result of some experimenting with instant mold as are the bullets across his chest. Can see the stuff being stupidly useful in the future.

On to the big 40k news of the past few days that is the leaked pics of the new starter set, I'm rather excited first time ive felt that towards 40k in a while. The Cultists are completely perfect for the human pirates I wanted to make hell the fact the leader of the autogun squad is in a pirate style coat is even better :P

I think if i mix in a few mutants and the few eschers that I won on ebay and I will have a rather nice unit of pirate filth.

As to the rest of the starter set well the librarian will get converted to a sorcerer, the termies have potential but the rest o fthe DA stuff will probs be sold. With the chaos side of things the chosen dont really fit in to well with my style of corsairs so I might have to have them as some sort of allied warband. The hellbrute is another overly chaotic model that doesnt go with my theme, however because it is so awesome i can simply sum it up in fluff as an experiment by Valthex..................

I'm hoping to grab some time to do some painting in a few days just 2 days of work in the way

How do you sculpt your studs on the grieves? I can't ever get the GS that smooth, or uniformly round.

Plog of Jericho - Wood Elves, Daemons, Beastmen, CSM and Whatnot.

MD: You got a christmas gift?
House: Yeah, 'cause I worship Santa. Or wait, is that Satan? I always get them mixed up.
