Thread: Precinct Omega paints... MechaWar Miniatures!

    Precinct Omega paints... MechaWar Miniatures!

I got a parcel from em4miniatures the other day, containing 60 of their super-cheap mech miniatures (£2.55 for 5). And now I've started painting them properly:

I think you'll agree that these paint up pretty damn well. For scale, that's a 2p piece that it's mounted on.

These are to support the release of the MechaWar miniatures combat game from Precinct Omega Publishing, coming in Sept 2012. Huge thanks to Doug at em4 for permission to use these models in example illustrations.

Took a break between clients' jobs today to do a second mech:

This one's a Mass 2 mech. The last one was Mass 1.

Just dashed off the Mass 3 mech before church:

I aim to complete two full forces of a MA3, MA2 and two MA1s in these colours before Wednesday, then I can start taking photos on Thursday once I've borrowed a piece of my Realm of Battle back from the Games Bunker.

I found some bits in my Big Box o' Crap from which I thought I could make some nice buildings for MechaWar:

I've done four so far. Got the parts to make at least eight, I think.

Any plans to release your own range of minis for the game?

Re: Precinct Omega paints... MechaWar Miniatures!

I can't see myself being able to beat em4's price for mechs. Less than 60p each is such a great deal!

However, I am working on a companion game to allow you to field infantry, armoured and artillery elements alongside the mechs (or even without any mechs at all!). There's no shortage of excellent 6mm-10mm tanks and vehicles, but there's a definite failure when it comes to the infantry, IMO. I did a lot of searching for nice 6mm or 10mm sf infantry with a hard our near future feel, but couldn't find anything appropriate.

So I am working on a range of light infantry miniatures in the 10mm scale. Very early days, though. I wouldn't hold your breath.

As usual great painting, and top terrain making skills. Looking at the relative size of the building is the game is looking to be 10-15mm scale?

In my head it's more like 6-10mm scale. But there's nothing in the game to stop it being 15mm or, indeed, 28mm. In fact, when I began playtesting, I was using Warmachine warjacks.

I've been meaning to do a building tutorial. *I took all the pics and never got around to it! *Must sort that out as a bonus material article now that MechaWar is on the stands. *Meanwhile, here's a shot of a new MA2 mech I finished (nearly) today:

I had a go at doing the same camo pattern as on my Infinity minis, but reversed.

You are quite right, these minis paint up really well! Nice work, and even better knowing the price

Damn straight. Even the plastic trooper minis are OK when you take in the price. I'm also painting up some of the spaceships as atmospheric aircraft to playtest a new game...

So, as I mentioned, I'm working on a final level draft of the AirFrame rules, designed both to stand alone and to support MechaWar. So I got my hands on some plastic space ships from em4, which I think work really well as futuristic atmospheric aircraft. Now I'm going to be playtesting, I thought it was time I got some paint on them:

This is so cool, you're seriously tempting me here! Always had a soft spot for mechs and the ridiculous cheapness of thus while thing is very attractive too. I think I may have to pick up a copy if these rules...

Got these today, from Brigade Models:

These are to playtest the combined arms volume of the three sets of inter-locking SF wargame rules Precinct Omega is publishing (MechaWar being the first and AirFrame the second). In retrospect, they may actually be a little smaller than I expected - they look really quite tiny next to the mechs, so I might look at adding some 10mm to my collection to see how they look.

Re: Precinct Omega paints... MechaWar Miniatures!

So here's a MA1 mech, the smallest pattern of mech, standing next to a platoon of mobile infantry, as represented by these Brigade Models APCs. I love these models: they're cheap, well detailed and have a nice "over the horizon" feel to them, although they did need a bit of cleaning up before I painted them. I'll do more work on them in due course - squad markings and suchlike - but this is good enough to be going on with, I think. The big question at the moment is "are they too small?"

What do you think? Should I go 10mm? I'm going to get them all painted up, of course, along with the light and heavy infantry. We'll see how it feels once they're all done.

Great thread mate, you convinced me to finally do an em4 order! I was all set to use the fighters/ships in a spaceship game, but they do look good in camouflage.
