    ModernKiwi's WHQ

About 6 months or so back I got cheaply a copy of WHQ. The reason for it being so cheap was that while most of the figures were present, the books etc had all been water damaged (mostly beyond repair). I then got lucky enough the other day to score another copy. This one had only a few of the figures left (more on while shortly), but all the books, cards, tiles etc were in great condition. So altogether I've got pretty much a complete set, with the exception that I only have four giant spiders.

The dark grey doorways are ones that I have painted and came with the first set. The Minotaur and Orc were painted by the previous owner.

The basic warrior figures also came pre-painted by the previous owner and he did a pretty good job too, so I'm not going to touch those. All I've done is rebase them and replace the broken swords and wizards staff.

Just by comparison, here's a Barbarian that I painted up from the older set.

The newest set also came with a number of the extra character figures including the Halfling, the Elven Ranger, the Troll Slayer, the Empire Noble, the Witch Hunter and the Assassin.

Over the next few weeks I hope to paint up the rest of the figures and then game on with a couple of mates who I already play WFRP with.

Good job on the fixing up. Nice paint jobs as well, you got pretty lucky! Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks for the comments. I meant to take some more pictures on Saturday of the HE Ranger and the Troll Slayer, but the weather was so nice I went out instead. Of course Sunday was dark, gloomy and raining, so no pictures again. But I will put up some updates just as soon as I can take some more.

    Some updates.

Mostly finished Snotlings. I'm going to get some putty to build up their bases so they match other units.

Orc Warriors. I swapped a couple of swords for leftover Beastmen axes to create a little variety. Still have a couple of these unpainted.

And Orc Arrow Boyz. Had to replace a couple of broken bows, and they look a bit naff so I'll keep them hidden at the rear...

Some hero figures. First up the Elves. I didn't paint the HE Ranger, he came pre-painted and (despite looking a little drag-queen up close), I'm not going to repaint it. The Witch Elf on the end has both arms broken off, so I'll be hunting through the spares to see what I can substitute.

And lastly some human heros. I didn't paint the Witch Hunter, but I'm quite happy with the existing paint job even if it isn't what I'd have done. And bonus is that he looks a lot like my friend Sean who plays a Witch Hunter in our Warhammer FRPG games...

Good update. Nice Witch Hunter and Elf. I'm sure you'll find some good arms for the Dark Elf Sorceress - there are plenty of good DE/WE/HE models to choose from for arms. Have a look at 40K Eldar too - they have some nice arms with gloves/gauntlets, etc.

Nice selection of models, and I like the paint jobs - bright colours, but not garishly so. Makes them seem more fun! Also, your terrain looks really good. Always love to see a river on a board.

Nice find, and well painted models in there too! Talk about quality pre-painted

Certainly watching your collection grow, love these threads. I'd swear that Elf has some kanji on his cloak

Looks like you really lucked out in your purchases, getting great stuff. Looking forward to seeing more of your work, are you going to try to match the existing minis or go completely different?

I don't think I can match the existing minis. They're done in such a different style to my painting that I doubt I'd be capable of matching it. I mean that guy was amazingly good. There are fine details you can't see in the photos that just blew me away.

I've been painting the doorways (which I know are dull, but have to be done), and have been somewhat distracted with a bit of extra terrain making (having a spare Fortified Manor and some internet conversion ideas will do that) and beastmen.

I've also discovered hidden under a pile of WHQ skaven the Imperial Noble and a couple of Mordheim Middenheimers so that just adds more to the "to do" list.

Really? (Checks under his own pile of skaven plastics).. nothing under my pile. sniff. Found a missing mace part thought

Do post images of the terrain you're working on, is it dedicated to WHQst or mainstream Warhammer?

That's my mace part, one of my Middenhiemers is missing hers!!!!!

You can find the terrain here:

Just for WFB, I don't think I have the necessary talents to build a Quest dungeon like some I've seen on here

You could probably do some Quest encounters using the Warhammer buildings that you have. Fighting it out in and around the fortified mansion or the Tower would be cool, and allow you to use the scenery in a more involved way than WFB allows.

Updates. Finished the Snotlings, well more or less. There are five more that are just waiting a final wash and then I'll call them done too.

Made a start on the giant bats (2 examples, but I have 14 to do altogether)

And in my post came a number of new items, all destined for a Simple Green bath...

    (No shield sadly)

(Will have to find something to replace the broken hand)

Plus some more Minotaurs and Orcs.

What I can't get over is the fact that your gaming table has such an insanely nice atmosphere to it.

Thanks mate. I really lucked out with my gaming boards which helps, it's a lot better than gaming on a green table cloth like I used to. One of these days I must get around to finishing off the final two pieces of it (puts this in postition #126 of Kiwi's gaming things to finish list)...

Finished all the Giant Bats and the doorways this evening, but I doubt I'll be in a position to take pictures until next weekend. I want to make a start on the spiders, but first I'll take a peak at everyone elses WHQ plogs to seek a good scheme. And then - hopefully - I'll be able to have my first ever game soon after that.

Good man..! A Bretonnian no less

The shield he normally comes with is quite broad, pity is wasnt included, however it does give you options fo own creation heraldry!

Raided eBay myself lately, always hard to keep a project rolling whilst waiting on critical parts.

    Small update (literally).

I haven't finished the base and I'm giving serious consideration to rebasing all the character figures onto something ruined rather than just diret.
