    Warriors of Apoc truly AMAZING

My Warriors of Apoc arrived in the mail today and I must say they are the definition of epic. My whole frustration about the 7 month wait ( ordered early in February!) was gone the moment I opened the first box. I got 4 boxes (hand weapons, halberds, hand weapon+shield). Amazing.

    - übercool looking models, a vast improvement over the GW warriors
    - great quality sculpts, crisp detail
    - everything you'd want Finecast to be
    - lots of great extra stuff
    - perfectly useable for 40k Chaos

I cried out of sheer joy.
    Thank you Avatars of war!

Edit: here is a Warrior I quickly put together for showing you guys. So never mind the mould lines Scaryscarymushroom posted a whole bunch below!

I would post a scale picture of this guy next to a GW Warrior, but these Avatars Warriors scale up perfectly, so it's not really necessary.

Let the meat grinder grind on..

I hope mine turn up soon, I ordered in early Feb as well, so unfortunately I don't think there's anyway the models could be awesome enough to completely make up for the insane wait, although I can understand the issues they had. Will happily buy from AoW again though, all the other models I've got from them have been amazing.

When you've assembled some could you take a pic of the backs of the models please?

If you don't mind me asking, when did you order yours? I ordered mine on the 16th of Feb and they have yet to arrive, was wandering how long stuff takes to get to NZ from Spain as they should have shipped over a month ago.

I know this isn't directed at me, but I'd like to offer up pics of my shield+CCW guys anyway because I think existing pictures on the internet don't do the kit justice at all.

Hmm. Interesting. Get up close like that and you can see that I have a lot of cleaning up to do. And one of the shields in picture 8 appears to be damaged (should have 3 bars instead of 2). Also, the banner is very hard to put together. Which is why I put green stuff on mine.

EDIT: sorry about the blur in some of them.

Damn those look good. I've emailed them a week ago regarding my order, no response yet but not worried as it's a small company and I'm sure they get a lot of emails.

Really want mine to get here though!

How's the quality of the casts and the material itself compared to finecast?

I'm tempted to get myself a unit when they're back in stock

It's not as flexible as finecast. It's more like working with resin. When cutting it with a knife, it has a somewhat grainy texture. You can snap it if you apply enough pressure (which is how I got rid of most of the AoW copyright tags on my bits), but there's some flexibility too. It's easy to clean. It takes a while to glue (much longer than typical plastic).

The occasional bit has casting issues. It looks like sometimes the material doesn't quite fill the mold and you end up with super-thin parts like chain links or rings hanging from the armor that have holes. Not air bubbles, but holes because they're so thin. Here's a pic of me holding up a piece with this problem to the light.

This is the same bit that's glued to my battle standard in the picture I shared earlier.

To be clear, this problem exists with maybe 2 or 3 bits out of close to 100 per box.

Good to read that they are not only great, but they are plugging along with the orders. My estimated ship date is a month past due and I have sent two emails, with no response. That is very frustrating and be a large company or small, if someone gives you money 5 months before you deliver the product, then does not update the shipping calculator or answer email concerns - that equals bad business. I would have thought that AOW was smarter than this.

Still waiting...Still frustrated...But, a little comforting to know others are late and the minis are great.

I really like these models but I will only order once they've cleared the backlog.

Cheers for the pics. I am strongly tempted to get some to use as nurgle chaos knights. How hard/ soft is the material. Would it be easy to carve a bit?

I've been thinking of trying a couple of AoW hero models for my WoC. Anyone had any experience with any of them?

It's fairly soft; easy to drill. I don't think it'd be easy to carve designs into it with a knife, maybe that's just me. Sounds like a complicated chore no matter what kind of plastic you are carving.

    @MyNameDidn'tFit

Their Base sizes are just a hair larger than GW bases are. If you are going to have the hero join a squad, make sure you use a GW base that allows it to rank up without any complication. Other than that, the minis look great mixed into GW ones.

Mine just got here. All is forgiven, they look absolutely fantastic. Command pieces look like they might be hard to assemble, but everything else is just awesome.

If you've assembled any of the halberd warriors, I'd love to see some photos or hear of any complications and such you had? I seem to have a bit of trouble getting mine to line up, but I've only tried a couple of combos so I'm waiting until I have properly cleaned up every piece and have a solid few hours spare to try lots of different things.

Mine have been godawful to assemble and rank up. I don't know how they managed to do it for the box art!

Even Ranking up the Shield + Hand weapon guys was a real pain. It took me several hours (over about 4 days) to build the unit, and then I numbered the bottoms of all the bases so I knew which ones I could fit where.

I'm not looking forward to ranking up my own box of halberdiers.

    Woo! 1000th post!
