Thread: Alternative Necron models?

    Alternative Necron models?

After proxying a couple of games with a foot-slogging Necron list, i am actually starting to like the way that the army plays.
I have a mech-guard army, and playing something without vehicles is nice for a bit of a change.

I am keen to put together a 1500-2000 point foot-slogging list, but i REALLY dislike the GW Warrior and Immortal models.

Does anyone know of any alternative models that i could proxy as Necrons?

(And before anyone asks, no im not trying to be cheap lol. I'd be happy to spend above GW prices as long as the models look better.)

    Cheers in advance.

well, if money isn't too much of an issue, you could always try tracking down some AT-43 therians.

While I doubt they'll be that pricey, the company that made them went under a few years ago, so they're oop.

What about the OOP metal Necrons?

They can be found every so often in trades and on e-bay.

Those old models look so much better than the new ones!

I've been thinking about alternative necron models as well. Perhaps I won't have to replace the whole model but rather convert it somewhat. I would like them to look more Terminator (the movie) and less Lego. Go burn in **** green plastic rods!

I could absolutely go with immortals (and perhaps even the skinny warriors) as long as I can find them more bulky/boxy looking weapons.

    Ideas?

I decided to do away with the green rods on my Necron Warriors - with a little knifework, I got the gauss flayers from the Ark and merged them with the warrior flayers - now they look like the rest of the gauss weapons in the Necron army. I still have one green rod with one of my necron lords - old Warscythe from the Destroyer Lord.

Did you exchange them for another rod or what did you do? I don't like the whole concept of necron weapons at all. I want something completely different, more of the traditional bolter or Cadian lasgun shape or whatever. Don't like the rounded, slender and fragile looking things that for example necrons and eldar carry around.

The gauss flayers made for the Ark have the new Gauss rod, with the cut-out circles and engraving in it - I cut them from the join with the rod, and the hand guard, and pin-fitted the Ark Gauss Rod, Muzzle and under-rail with axe to the original gauss flayer. Doesn't change the dimensions, but it puts the new gauss rods into the Necron Warriors' guns to unify the look with the rest of the gauss weapons in my army. I'm similarly converting new Destroyers out of Triarch Bodies, Immortal Legs, Deathmark Arms with the gun modified to include the gauss cannon off the Command Barge, and a Deathmark head. - I figured the stat lines didn't justify the huge old Destroyer design, so I made a combination of Deathmark and Triarch to give it the right weapon and a body that fits the stat line - Triarchs have the exact same stat line the Destroyers do, it's just a difference of weapon.

Ah, I actually didn't know they'd been updated. I have a bunch of the older warriors then I guess and a couple of destroyers. Would really like to see your converted weapons! :-)

    Re: Alternative Necron models?

Alright, ask and ye shall receive - Here I have two samples of exactly your situation - disposing of the green rods with the new redesigns.

On the Left, we have a Warrior with the hybrid Original/Ark Gauss Flayer - the entire gray area is where I spliced on the Ark Flayer, so from essentially the spot with the rear sight, and then from ahead of the hand grip, all to the muzzle of the gun.

On the Right, we have a 3rd Ed Immortal, the Metal ones, with a modified Gauss Blaster - I sourced the Gauss Blaster piece from a Tomb Blade that I have - I wanted Teslas on the blades, so I rebuilt the Gauss Blaster so he would mix with the Immortals that I'm building from the new stuff. In this case, the coupling is just forward of the handguard.

Interesting! :-) You're picture is now officially stolen. Won't copy your idea but use it as inspiration.
