    Hive Fleet Asphodel

The reincarnation of my first ever 40k army- Tyranids! This scheme is from their second incarnation; the first scheme was green flesh with a blue carapce- it look fine, but I like this scheme better. These are the colors my old nids were sporting during 4th. That army ended up getting sold though and we are starting anew.

I picked up 16-17 Genestealers second hand from the forums. They were assembled all funky like the mould lines were not cleaned off. Luckily, they were assembled with superglue (for easy disassembly) and I was able to clean off 87% of the mould lines and assemble them properly. Before and after pictures attached.

This is what I got in the mail.

Ended up like this. I have some surprises in the works as well!!!

    Re: Hive Fleet Asphodel

Thia log is currently taking a backseat to my WoC Fantasy log; however, I am still assembling and I am waiting on something only obtainable from the mysterious land of Britain!

    Army currently consists of:

    25 Genestealers
    36 Hormagaunts
    32 Gargoyles
    2 Hive Guard
    3 Warriors
    1 Trygon

FYI I do NOT recommend 'abbadon' on eBay- You can see the 'New in Box' Hormagaunts and Gargoyle box- they all came crushed...

That's not just a few gribblies. Paintwise, what are you aiming for?

I will be reiterating my hold color scheme from a Tyranid army I sold a few years back. Here is the color scheme- although I will be base coating in a different color (this fex is basecoated bubonic brown over a grey undercoat; the new army is getting primed in dark brown to cut down on the most time consuming step- basecoating!)

Gz, even metal ones. I'm looking forward to them .
Your swarm grows steadily it seems - what do you plan to include from the big gribblies?

I kinda wanted to get rolling with the little bugs (my last army I painted MCs first and never got to the little guys! so we are going in reverse) and since I am making good speed, I have some mid-size stuff on the way. I have the 6 total metal Hive Guard, bits for 2 x Primes, 3 Zoanthropes on the way, 6 Warriors, 4 Raveners + a Red Terror (which will just count as another Ravener-I like the model and use to play the special character). I also have a current edition metal Tyrant coming that I picked up on the cheap. As for monstrous, I have to make 2 Screamer Killers with the current kit- love the Screamer Killers. I guess Mawlocs and Trygons eventually and...something...bigger.

I don't really have a desire to make the most min maxxed competetive list- I am just recreating the army I used to play.

    Hive Guard cleaned up nice.

12 more Hormies done and done...

Finished 10 more 'Stealers. Been painting in the log for 26 days now, so I figured I would give an update of the army.

    Re: Hive Fleet Asphodel

Although I am my army will have several options for Tyrants, I am a big fan of the Tyranid Prime- he adds alot of flexibility to a squad. I like that in a squad of warriors he confers his WS/BS and can eat krak missile that would ID a warrior. They are no slouch in combat either. For my Primes I went with a very simple kit bash of Warrior legs and lower body, Ravener upper body and scything talons and head. The LW/BS are the resin kit GW sells. I have included a regular warrior for scale purposed- I think they are just enough bigger than the regular Warriors and make a great, easy prime.

I am planning on doing a third with LW/BC and a Deathspitter.

    Re: Hive Fleet Asphodel

That's indeed a simple but very nice idea - I'll go with the whole serpentine ravener-body instead of a bipedal version.
Nice to see the BS and LW "in personae". They'll be very nice, I'm sure .

Regarding your painted stuff:It looks pretty clean and soild, and more important in terms of little bugs great in masses.
The only thing I'd alter is a second colour for your stealers, maybe some pattern on their carapaces.

    Now go for the 'Primes.

Thanks for the feedback harlekin; seeing as you and I have the only responses in this thread id seems we have our very own private plog.

But I got ninja'ed by Horus Luprercal! Asphodel is a term from Greek mythology? It is a part of the Ancient Greek Underworld; that is where I sourced the name.

    Re: Hive Fleet Asphodel

Alright, finally played my first game of 6th and all I can say is wow. I love assault 'Nids, but many shooting hurts with the new rules- casualties removed from front, no assaulting if running etc. I am sure the rest of you figured this out already, but I have just been reading it and didn't figure it would be so bad. Wrong! But, I am not giving up- I like my army too much. Anyway, I played 1500 points vs Chaos Marines- Slaanesh Noise Marines.

    My 1500 (actually 1456) was:

    Prime- LW/BS, Scything Talons, Regen
w/ 3x Warriors - Scything Talons, Rending Claws

    Prime - LW/BS, Deathspitter, Regen
    w/ 3x Warriors - Scything Talons, Deathspitters

    3 x Hive Guard
    3 x Hive Guard

    15 x Genestealers
    w/ Broodlord

    15 x Genestealers

    20 x Hormagaunts
    w/ Toxin Sacs

    20 x Hormagaunts
    w/ Toxin Sacs

    -----------------------

Chaos had Lucius w/ Squad in a Rhino (Doom Siren?), 3 Oblits, Psyker w/ Bike Squads6-8 bikes, I dont remember, a Dread and a Squad w/ Sonic Blasters and a Cultist Squad. I took zero monstrous creatures cause I didn't have any assembled and I had to rush to assemble the hive guard. I setup first evenly across my side. He sets up in one corner to deny. Sonic blasters kills lots of hormagaunts. Hive Guard destroy dreadnaught, destroy rhino. most of the small bugs get really shot up between sonic weaponry and overwatch. Oblits blast some warriors with heavy flamers. Prime kills Lucius via bonesword. Broodlord is challenged by psyker and they exchange blows for 2 rounds before broodlord gets off aura of despair and kills psyker. I kill all the bikes, but between the rest of Lucius squad, oblits shooting assault cannons and the sonic blaster squad, I end up getting wiped. So, when I got home, I started building my MCs.

Thoughts: Hive Guard are good. I really, really like Tyranid Primes- bone swords + whip is really strong. Hormagaunts roll all kinds of dice for running and charging with crazy rerolls but mostly just get shot to pieces. No charging after running makes me sad. Going to try some Raveners. Going to swap out a prime for a Tyrant w/ guard next game. Need some Trygons. Will probably pickup 3 more Warriors w/ Deathspitters- I can see these being really good versus non-MEQ combined with a Prime. Everyone was impressed by my model count- both at the start and in my dead pile at the end.

I like the paint scheme you are using. Also nice to see an older Hive Tyrant. There is something about them that I like a lot more, maybe the fact that they remind me of Giger's alien.
