Malorian at Out of the Basement 2012

Well much to my wife's fury, I went to another 2 day tournament the weekend after the last one. It is the Out of the Basement tournament and this time I planned on taking a much more solid list.

My 2250 List:

Orc warboss w/ sword of bloodshed, potion of strength, charm shield
Lvl 4 orc shaman w/ dispel scroll

Night goblin bsb
3X NG big boss w/ great weapon

40 savage orc big uns w/ banner, extra choppa
49 NG w/ spear, nets, banner
20 NG archers w/ banner

40 black orcs w/ flaming banner

hey malorian,

i'm glad you enjoyed your game against the CD.

i play CD and i agree with your opponent 100%. before every game i play i give them the book to paruse at their convience. if they have any questions i always answer them, and i even give them tips (like the iron daemon, the train) can be stopped with a unit of cheap fast cav or a single monster/monstrous infantry, becuase it only have 3 crew attacks and relies on it's stomp to do anything. if you negate the stomp attack it's got nothing!

i prefer that type of thinking/gaming. the win at all costs to me is not right. this is not the real world, and winning is not important at all. to me this is a hobby/game that i play for fun only. sure the goal is to win, but if i don't win, so long as it was a fun game and equally matched i'm happy. the win at all costs mentally i get enough of at work.

It seems like the quality of players in this tournament was not as good compared to "Warhammered" players, who really made you work for your victories.

As for the Haters on the Net-do not worry about them, their Hate poisoning will kill them off.

Maybe next tourny try out 4 or 5 big boss goblin riders on gigantic spiders-Wwwaaagh! Not like you are using the hero points any ways.

Good stuff, I've got up to the CD vid so far.

One point though:
It's not like the CD rules are really that much (any?) harder to get hold of than any other army's rules. I think the argument that people don't have the chance to read them is a valid one; it's not really any less accessible. Indeed, if the problem with CDs is a lack of knowledge amongst the community regarding what they can do, surely the solution is to encourage people to play with (and therefore against) them; they'll learn through exposure even if they don't want to pick up (or borrow) a copy of Tamirkhan.

I don't get it, people say OnG suck, then rage when somebody makes them work. Or they say, the other guy sucks. I get the same thing with beastmen after I play Ogres, who are more easy to trash with BM than with OnG. If I were you Malorian, I'd add A night gob warboss with magic hat so something else fun to show you beat people with skill.

There was another orc player there who is always in it just for the fun and he took a goblin w/ wizard hat.

He didn't do well (I don't think he won a single game) but he had a lot of fun.

I may have to find the mid-point between our two lists.

I enjoyed watching these batreps, the tone in your voice when reporting on them really makes it sound like you enjoyed it too. I enjoyed the summary video more than some of the reports, its really reflective on your attitude towards the game.
Its a shame people have to post stupid things on the net, im looking forward to more whatever the outcome or playstyle.

Maybe you now have some material for orc tactical videos on the balance between fun and competitive?

I think you took that criticism a bit incorrectly (I was not involved, by the way). Maybe it has changed since I read it, but they pretty unanimously agreed that you were a nice/cool guy (I agree). Perhaps you could take their criticisms to your general play style and try to adapt (you already do that, somewhat)? If anything, the fact that the internet labelled you a nice guy is an achievement. Net criticism is rarely even legible, let alone complimentary.

I have a horde of spiders I could paint up and I already have the special character done, so if I can get some SERIOUS painting done that is an option.

Hey Mr M.
I think you batreps are entertaining. I always look at them when I paint
You talked about your competitive play style.
And that alot of people talk about you armies, and they say its abit too competitive.
If I understood it right?
Try to take normal big un´s instead of the savage orcs. It might give some good feedback
But I think that if people join a tournament, they must accept that people will take out the big guns.
So I cant understand why they are so " upset " againt your armies.

It's not so much that they are upset about my army as so much just saying it's strong.

None of what was said was directed at me, just at the strength level of the army. Now I'm sure if I really cheesed out then there might be some personal attacks, not this isn't that bad.

I was just hearing things I hadn't heard since the days I played my 14+ PD vampire count army in 7th, and it made me wish I had taken a softer list.
