    Bakhart Dreadnought, Sons of Horus

Just been rekindling my Sons of Horus army. So far the Contemptor is, well, kinda it

A whole slew of bits await painting up... I'm still just trying to decide how 'chaosy' or 'tainted' I want my Sons of Horus to be. They'll certainly be traitors, and going a bit 'feral', but I'm still to decide how much chaos influence I want to give them.

As for the dreadnought, its based around the 'Bakhart Dreadnought' card art from the OOP horus heresy card game, repeated in the Collected Visions book.

I wanted to get a really grimy and worn out look, to emphasise this guy hasn't really had all that much time for maintenance on the bloody trail toward Terra.

Oh, and you might not be able to see it properly, but he's crushing a marine helmet into the dirt. A Blood Angel helmet. Take that for your razorspam, brickravens, and mephistons

Not the best photos in the world. My camera is a pile of... well... yea.

Looking good so far however just one thing bugs me. If this is a "rebel" dread why does it have the purity seals still attached? Also I'm unsure if you've tried this but what about doing some metal chips to show how worn it is - like you see on tanks.

At this point in the timeline these are known as 'Oaths of Moment' and are used by Luna Wolves / Sons of Horus as seen in Horus Rising.

Later on Loyalist Legions start using them as Purity Seals and the custom falls away in the Traitor Legions.

Yea, as noted, they're oaths of moment

As to chipped armour.. it might not show up that well in the pic, but there already are paint chips. Tried the whole salt weathering technique. Although, that has reminded me that I forgot to highlight the chips.
Similarly, all the bare metal and and the edges of all the armour plates have been rubbed with graphite. Graphite is fantastic for metal, and you can't get a much cheaper modelling material than a pencil!
