    New to Dark Eldar-500 points

    40K Army: Dark Eldar
Hey so I'm new to Dark Eldar, and im playing in an upcoming 500 pt game. Just want to run my list by the forum, see if there is anything totally wrong with i.

Archon with huskblade, soultrap, ghostplate armor, combat drugs – 125
10 kabalite warriors with blaster, splinter cannon – 115
Raider with splinter racks – 70
8 wyches with hydra gauntlet, 5 haywire grenades and hekatrix with agoniser -130
    Raider -60

    Archon with the wyches
Shackle the soul and forge the flesh. Bind the machine and butcher the rest

I know the huskblade/soultrap combo sounds like a lot of fun, and it is. When it works, which isn't terribly often. Your Archon is in a strange middle ground where he is A) Not good enough to do anything worth while in CC, and B) Too expensive to be worth taking for what he's realistically going to do. If you want a deadly CC Archon, drop everything on him aside from the drugs, bring a Djinn Blade, Shadowfield, and a Blaster (you'll also need to drop the splinter racks, but that's okay). This will give the Archon 8 (drug enhanced) attacks on the charge with a 2++ save and a BS7 S8 AP2 ranged punch. This clocks in at 135 points.

Also you can't pick and choose which Wyches get haywire grenades. It's either them all, or none. This leaves you 6 points over. Bummer. I'd recommend dropping a wych (12 points), leaving you with 8 points to spend. May as well give Haywire grenades to your Archon so he can do something against a dreadnought if you come across one, or vehicles in CC in general, for that matter.

The warrior squad looks good. I'd like to see you have a sybarite in the squad, as warriors will fail leadership with only 8. But I don't see a good place to drop 7 points to buy him with.

With these changes you should be coming in at 497 points. Will look something like:

Archon with Djinn Blade, Shadowfield, Blaster, Combat Drugs – 135
10 kabalite warriors with blaster, splinter cannon – 115
    Raider - 60
7 wyches with hydra gauntlet, haywire grenades and hekatrix with agoniser -124
    Raider -60

I have a question though, not taking ghostplate armor... wouldn't that make him have to take a 5+ save against str. 5 attacks and under? or can i use the 2+ invulnerable for everything.

Not only can you, you HAVE to use it. And, generally, once the 2++ save goes down, your Archon is going to die regardless of his basic armor save. At least in my experience.

Alright, while your list looks good, I fear a turn one missile will ruin your game. Bolters wreck our paper air planes, even easier in this edition, and if your Wych raider is wrecked that's about 260 points now on the ground, having to foot slog it.

My recommendation is to split your units up to be a lot cheaper, takes a Haemie instead of an Archon who costs 25% of your force
5 warriors in a venom with a splinter cannon can pump out a ton of poisoned shots.
We have a good flier that can drop 4 large blast templates, and with the new rules, can only be shot down on lucky 6's

    Just a few pointers

Don't take archons, don't take succubus. Just a Haemie with shattershard and venom blade. Cheap and effective, because you don't want to go in melee with DE anymore, this is not 5th edition anymore. If you take warriors on a raider, you want to give them splinter racks but imho the gunboat is better at higher points.

Re: New to Dark Eldar-500 points

I think you list is decent but in my opinion it has a few flaws/ it could be reworked to be lot better. 500 pts is a very small game size and can be difficult with the DE to pull off.

One of the biggest problems I personally have with your list is the Archon who costs so much. At 125 pts he comes in at a quarter of your pts cost and the way you have him purchased is not as effective in the game size you are playing in. Everyone dreams of successfully pulling off the soul trap and huskblade combo but in a 500 pt game there are not that many Independent characters or monstrous creatures to use it on. I would instead go with a heamonculi or take the Baron for a cheaper option.

If you do take the baron this gives you a great choice for troupes in the hellions. They are fast moving with so dont need transport, have great guns, get +1 str and atk in cc, have hit and run, combat drugs and power from pain. With the baron leading them they also have grenades, stealth and allow you to reroll failed dangerous terrain.

Your warriors with the one blaster are really not doing much in this game because of their target confusion. Space Marines have to rely on purchasing one special weapon for squads but as DE we need to give our units their full potential. The splinter racks are a great idea on the raider but you may need to cut them out for this list.

Someone mentioned earlier that you cant only have some of your wyches with haywire grenades and this is true so your wych unit needs to be redone as well.

Overall here is my suggestions for your list:

    Baron Sathonyx 105
    Hellions (8) 128
    hellions (8) 128
    Scourges (5) 2 haywire blasters 130
Utilize cover for your hellions especially the unit with the baron and have them work together in cohesion; keep the unit without the baron behind the one with it so they both will have a cover save even. Try to chew through a easy unit at the begining of the game to give them feel no pain as well then feel free to move them more openly. Also avoid cc with the scourges. Everything should move very fast and you will be firing alot of shots per turn. The haywire blasters will be great for tank hunting but also will be usefull against infantry.

upon reflection this isnt a fix for your list but rather how i would play a 500 pt game... well the advice is still there if you would like.. to change yours i would up the wych squad number and go with a haemonculi as your HQ. Also drop the splintercannon and blaster from the kabalites

Re: New to Dark Eldar-500 points

    I would do:
3 Trueborn with 3 blasters and venom + SC + nightshield 166 (the shield is to avoid the rapid fire and the melta range)
Hamie + Shattershard, Liquifier and Venom blade 80
    5 warriors + 1 blaster + venom + SC 125
    5 warriors + 1 blaster + venom + SC 125
    ---
    496

I think you can't lose at this point level with a list like this. And with these units you have a good core for a 1000 point army or more.
