Thread: Force Spears?

    Force Spears?

Ok, clearly both Force Weapons and Powers weapons can be modeled very similarly. However, I can't halp but notice that Force Spears are not an option, even though a Power Spear is! (Spear/Lance) So since I actually have a Spear-wielding Librarian, What do I do? Based on the power Weapon definitions, a Spear/Lance doesnt fit into any of the Force weapon choices! Its not a staff, axe, or sword to be sure. I could just decide it's a sword. (This is my Librarian with a Force Sword, he has broad hands, and so I elongated the pommel. A lot.) Still, Id hate to be the cause of any "WYSIWYG" issues, and Id like to use him in Tournaments at some point when the whole army is done.

So... I guess, is it within reason to call it Sword? Is this an oversight by GW that we can expect an Errata for?

Seems like a staff with a pointy bit to me...

But in the power weapon section, it clearly makes a difference between a staff and spear. It just feels wierd that I use a Power Lance and a Lance looking force weapon, and they act so much different...

    Re: Force Spears?

The rulebook offers a couple of examples of weapon looks and which category they fall into, and of those the closest mentioned options are

Sword - pretty obvious- in this instance your spear can be viewed as a sword-type weapon with an elongated haft (much as you've stated)
Axe - halberd is mentioned - this approximates the length/style of combat slightly but the axe blade of a halberd is the obvious distinction here
Staff - mainly due to the length but it does say if it's a blunt weapon, so this is a lesser match.

Of those options I'd stick with sword as being the most closely matched representation. After all a two handed sword with a very long blade (see Grey Knights for instance) may have a similar combat style in terms of reach and thrust/cut maneuvers, so the simile holds.

Otherwise - discuss with your opponent if you feel you want to go a potentially more contentious option.
