'count as' Codex for Adeptus Mechanicus or Dark Mehcnaicum

Hi all. I've been reading Mechanicum, and have been inspired to start an Adepts Mechanicus or Dark Mechanicum list.

Now, since there's no codex for these armies yet, I'm wondering codex people think I should use to 'count as'

At the moment I've come up with the following
Necrons- overloard as techadept, royal court as retune, warriors as servitors/workers, immortals as Skitarii, dreadnaught/titan like construct as triach stalkers, pratorians as protectors ect
IG- CCS as techadept + retune, guardsmen as servitors/acolytes/Skitarii, Heavy weapon teams as a tracked/hover weapon platforms, and an assortment of vehicles (heavily converted/customised)- represents an expiditonary force
Chaos- (if rumours are true) warp smith as lord, cultists as servitors/acolytes, Chaos marines as Skitarii, and use an assortment of obliterators, daemon engines/Defilers etc. . (would make collecting allot easier)

so what codex do you think would best represent the Adeptus Mechanicus or Dark Mehcnaicum?
and what units do you think should represent what?

Necrons and Chaos for Dark Mechanicus. Grey Nights and Imperial Gaurd for regular Mechanicus. It also depends on what 'your' vision of Mechanicus military is. Some fluff seems to make Skitarii out much like Space Marines, while others makes them out to be closer to well equipped guardsmen. It depends on the Forgeworld I guess. My army is well equipped Skitarii as Inquisitorial henchmen in carapace with Bolters or hotshot Lasguns, Praetorians as Grey Knights, and pressed workers as Guardsmen. Some fluff would indicate that Skitarii are just highly motivated guardsmen, so a DKOK army would work too. Like I said, it depends on you vision of the fluff, and how you want the modeling project to go. One of the joys of a Mechanicus force is the freedom to make them really your own.

    Skitarii based:
Imperial Guard - Guardsmen as Hypaspists, Veterans as Praetorians, Techpriests, Heavy Waepon Teams/artillery as Sagitarii, Sentinels as Cataphractarii etc.
    or
Space Marines - Scouts as Hypaspists, Marines as Praetorians, Techmarines as Techpriests etc.

    Crazy-AdMech based:
Grey Knights - Coteaz as Magos, Warrior acolytes as Hypaspists, Death Cultists as Electropriests, Servitors, Arcos, Dreadnoughts as Robots, Dreadknights as Knights, Techmarines etc.
I made a Genestealer Cult! --- 2nd edition Tyranid army!

Or better yet, wait for the CSM book and use actual, proper Dark Mechanicus stuff - Warp Smiths, Obliterators, Maulers, Defilers, the two new Daemon Engines and then CSM and Cultists as different ranks of Chaos Skitarii.

Tempus Fugitives do some very nice fandexes for the Adeptus Mechanicus and Dark Mechanicus, they're a good alternative for games against your circle of regulars or even the local club, you most likely wont see them allowed for tournaments.

    I use the C:SM:

    *Master of the Forge
    *Techmarines
    *Dreadnoughts (Robots or heavy walkers)
*Scouts (Skitarii, maybe with Landspeeder Storm)
    *Thunderfire Cannon

I'm going to field IG as allies (Enginseer, Penal troopers, Sentinels, Deathstrike).

Dark Mechanicus... I suppose the new Codex for CSM will have some options. Dark Eldar (Haemonculi, Wracks, Grotesques, Talos/Chronos) are also fine.

I'm gonna say Henchman-GK for your general Admech list.

I think it's important for the majority of the list to be equipped with imperial weapons... hence, I'd steer clear of anything too crazy like Necrons.

The one list that lets you take actual servitors in your troop units has got to be the one to go for. The flexibility of henchmen in getting lots of different troop builds on the table will give you the most variety in terms of modelling opportunities: DCA/crusader/arco mobs for assault, carapace units with specials for short-range dakka, and a couple Jokaero + servitors for long-range... load it all in chimeras and support with dakka dreads (roooooobots) and a Dreadknight or two (Knights!). Finally, GK tech-marines are pretty amazing, with all those mad grenades.

I also drew up a SoB + IG list for a more conventional type of list... I figure power-armour on a regular human stat-line makes sense for the heavier skitarii. You also get access to at least one unit of DCA/crusaders. Add in repentia as combat servitors, and you're off to the races. A quick list might look like this:

    Jacobus - 90

    3 deathcults, 3 crusaders, 3 arcos - 135

    10 Repentia - 175

    2x10 Battle Sisters - flamer/heavy flamer - simulacra - 340

    3x Rhinos - searchlights - 108

    CCS -2 bodyguards - 2 plasma - carapace - Straken - 225

    10 veterans - 3 plasma - grenadiers - 145

    10 veterans - 3 melta - grenadiers- 130

    3 Chimeras - ML/HB - 165

    3x1 Leman Russ - hull lascannon - 495

    2008 points

    Cheers,

    The Good Doctor.

I've been thinking of using the Nids codex. Gaunts become Skittari, Hormagaunts become Electro-Priests, HQ's become a Magos on some kind of construct, then all the other units become various constructs. There's enough variation in there to come up with pretty much anything you want and the 'dex is still competitive, despite what the internet might tell you.

I was thinking the same thing, but for necrons. Any idea on what i could do with a night scythe? I have 3.

    Thanks for that.

after reading the coments, probably will be looking at doing an Admech list useing the IG or GK codex (though might change to CSM, depending on the models)

I'm now wondering though, dose anyone have any idea where I can get my hands on bionics & robotic bits and pieces for conversions (or links to anywhere that has ideas)

There're some excellent logs here on Warseer:

    *Whitehorn's Pre-Heresy and Mechanicum
*Adeptus Mechanicus W.I.P from the damned artificer
    *Adeptus Mechinicus Skitarii from Cerebralerebus

Some useful products from GW (other then the obvious Techmarines, Enginseers and Servitors):

    *Pit slaves
    *Chirugeon Backpack
    *Titan Tech Priest from Forgeworld
*Servo Skulls from Forgeworld (great for head-swapping)

And don't limit yourself with the obvious stuff - everything can be converted to the Mechanicus.
