Do the Dark Angels do anything of note in Prince of Crows, or are they just there to get slaughtered by Sevatar and co.?

Well mainly because they have no idea what the Night Lords fleet is doing, where Konrad Curze is and perhaps they believe that the Kyroptera they've captured will know something about Horus's wider plans.
That and they did kill a LOT of Night Lords in the battle, so they didn't take many prisoners. Only about 7-12.

There is also a great reference to the Astartes acidic spit in this story. Its definitely a must read.
Which begs the question:
I'm probably reading into it way too much.
Probably should add I read this alongside listening to the audio book so I now have the voice of Sevatar almost permanently locked to a voice not unlike Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
