In this case it seems fairly relevant. GW going digital has been received fairly decently okay'ishly (as much as you can expect from warseer or the internet, anyway), but the major gripe is it being inaccessible to the majority of customers because they need a humongously expensive Ipad for it before they can make use of it. If a smaller, cheaper Ipad is coming out, the entrycost to GWs digital products goes down by several hundred bucks. And that's pretty major.

I am irritated at the lack of digital book for kindle, so we can get it on the Kindle Fire or any Android tablet.

This love affair with Apple and the iJunk is stupid.

Hell, if they released it on Kindle, than ANYONE with an android phone could use it. I could load it up on my Galaxy s III if I didn't own a tablet. I have both.

This iPad model cuts out so many millions of users.

wasn't there a reason for it? It being too easy to pirate on android or somesuch, so it taking a while before they go to that untill the security is worked out?

At least GW acknowledged on its facebook that android and android-users exist, instead of ignoring them away entirely.

In that case it would be enough to mention it once maybe twice. I've seen him do that every couple of posts (i am exaggerating). Besides we don't know whether the digital codices will be available or really usable on the smaller iPad.

Different drm-aware formats are available for a variety of devices/OSes. That's not the reason for GW going iBook-only at the moment.

    .
This is from GWs digital product article:

"Games Workshop's digital products are exclusively available from the iBookstore. To download them you will need an iPad with iOS 5 or later, an Apple ID and the iBooks 2 app"

I assume it'll have iOS 5 'or later'.

It won't be a large iPad though. Hopefully it'll work, but until we know for sure, i'd suggest scaling down our expectations.

Well, the choice is between "it works", and "it doesn't work", so if you scale down your expectations, you're not expecting anything anymore

If it works, it might need a lot of zooming/scrolling. So it's not just a binary situation.

Edit: Anyway, perhaps we should get back to the actual rumors. Thanks Stickmonkey for the update.

Well, the pirating excuse is lame. People will pirtae this book regardless. For those who want a digital version to avoid having to lug around books, have already pirated it, and are using the PDF version.

Android devices, plus the iPad reads PDF's.

Do they think people have not already been doing this?

This is plain and simply a deal with Apple. They are cutting android users out. This is stupid. When people want to give you their hard owned dough, you should take it.

If anything, this slap in the face will drive people to getting the pirated PDF's more, as they feel insulted.

If so, then they're either stupid or must've gotten an enormous slab of money for this deal, as it no doubt cuts out the (vast) majority of their customerbase. GW being as greedy as we like to call them, it sounds odd for them to have made a deal that prevents millions of people from buying their products, without getting a x millions worth bribe for it..

    OMG THE SKY IS FALLING.

The angry android users have made their point, as they have several times before. I don't have an iPad, and I don't care. They'll bring it out eventually for all devices and platforms. They are clearly in a tentative, experimental stage to determine how to make a profit in this media, which is itself experimental to a large degree. They know that for every book they sell, many more will be pirated, and that offering it legally isn't going to make much of a difference in the piracy rate. Frankly, I doubt they're getting anything from Apple for this. I doubt Apple even knows they exist.

They've been doing this for less than a year. Give them a break.

Yes, that's it. The sky is falling. Yeah. Nothing to do with a game that we play, and a product being denied to us because we don't want to spend $500 USD on a prodcut we can spend $250 USD for the same function.

This is not a crisis, the world will spin, but it IS irritating when we android users (who outnumber iOS users by about 50 million world wide) get to stand by and watch as we get shut out of a product that we too have been screaming for.

@Vektorraum: Right! If I was being paid by Apple to promote something that would be sales, but the reality is that I'm trying to be helpful.

How about we just drop all further discussion of the platform, ok? Can we agree to do that so The Dude won't close the thread? Stickmonkey has been very helpful and I don't want him to have to start a new a thread due to platform bickering.

I'm closing my own thread. The iOS vs everyone else needs to stop. It's very much akin to Gw didn't release Khorne chariots this month and there are hundreds of Khorne daemon players waiting on it. They want us to buy multiple kits and do conversions, the greedy bastards.

For Pete's sake people. You didn't have digital codexes at all 2.25 months ago. GW used iBooks Author, it works with iBooks2. Based on its success or not they will make business decisions to hire a team to replicate the experience for other devices as securely as possible. Thats all there is to it. Go read the story of the Dog with Two Bones and then move on.

    Thread closed!

    No cheers for you!
