I'm just happy to hear some Dark Angels rumors finally! They're supposed to be coming out in a starter box soon, and they wouldn't put one of the oldest armies in a starter box if they weren't gonna update it...

@Ixe: I fully agree but with the Hobbit game and whatever is next for Fantasy after Warriors of Chaos, Dark Angels will probably have to wait a while. Some sources are speculating April of next year. There's also the 2nd aircraft wave apparently due soon.
Thankfully new players can use Codex Ultramarines... er I mean Codex Space Marines until the update.
The current Codex Dark Angels will be a good source of background before it gets completely retconned!![]()
Yep, and most of the IG special characters have to be dead at the "current" point of the game, especially the NCOs. Unless juvenat is a lot more common than they make out in some of the books.
I hadn't even thought of the possibility of Fallen being in the DA book. He's so out of place for CSM that it makes sense. Maybe a special ability that allows CSM & SM to ally, similar to what Huron could do in 2nd?
That actually brings up an interesting point. I wonder if certain special characters will allow different allies if they are your warmaster. For example cypher being in the chaos book and allowing "battle brothers" status with dark angels. Honestly though. I bet you don't even need rules for cypher in order to field him in your dark angel army. I guarantee they will use the "replace bolt pistol and or bolter with the following" and have plasma pistol as an option. Which lets you get the 2x pistol load out (even more specifically the bolt/plasma load out). Since he never wields the sword he is carrying in actual combat you don't even need rules to give him one. Probably make him one of the chaplains or some such and you are good to go.

@IcedAnimals: Not to get into a tangent but Dark Angels had the "We Stand Alone" chapter trait in 4th edition, meaning they couldn't ally with anyone.
In 2nd edition Dark Angels could ally only with other Space Marines and Imperial Guard with no abhumans (ogryns and ratlings).
When I saw the ally chart in the new rulebook I had amoment because all this time I thought Dark Angels zealously hated xenos and mutants more than most other chapters.
Anyway special characters altering the ally chart is an interesting idea and GW should explore that, but we will have to open another thread on that topic.
My overall hope is that GW doesn't leave DA players with the outdated book too long, especially the new players drawn into the hobby by the starter set wanting to play DAs. The daemon booket with the latest WD gives me hope that maybe GW will throw us a bone to chew while we wait... eight months if estimates are correct.![]()
I think he meant to say the 25th anniversary year...![]()
I wouldn't be surprised if Melee Termies weren't allowed Cyclones, I only just move the thing from one squad to another, I am not about to take it off again
It is the one thing I expect to be true, they mess with the most expensive ££ squads weapon load out every version, hoping people will piss away more money.
Let's leave off bashing Nafka. The guy doesn't create rumors, but collate's them for us, that's a service. I don't approve of bashing rumor poster's either, but bashing him specifically is like killing the messenger.
I hope these rumors are false just because they are boring, and while I think a lot of the marine codex's in the last few years have been a little rediculous (Grey Knights) at least they haven't been boring. I'm actually hoping for a Mat Ward codex with all kinds of crazy stuff in it. I fully expect to be announcing that I am firing my "Secret Missiles" and "Forgotten Ammo" out of my "Dark Bolter". I do hope that whoever posed is right and we get double codex's in October. While I have a hard time swollowing that, we haven't had a codex is 10 months at this point, and it's time.
All Hail the Super Secret Green Marines!
It doesn't "look" or even feel right to me either, but I collected most of these guys when 2 heavy weapons was standard, it is a choice of throwing money away when they do this (with questionable motives) or using the same money to expand my existing force, or start on new ones. Either are a lot more entertaining than replacing what I already have every few years.
Right now for the first time in years, they are "legal" with 1 heavy per squad, and that is how they will stay now, no matter what
I hope we do not get another boring edition of the codex, I was surprised this one I have in the house was the most upto date, I dabbled with 4 and skipped 5th.. and as for Options? Army wide we get none, It is not "legal" to field 3 FOC's such as Deathwing/Ravenwing/Dark Angels anymore, but I can cuddle up to Necrons? Erm.... seriously
Then we have the standard Marine Codex that is full of interesting wargear I never got to useDA need a wee boost. Just to make them more interesting!
But never seems to be able to name sources. Almost as though we can't even be sure there ARE sources and he isn't just making it all up rather than performing a service. Funny that. Also funny how everyone started sending the guy rumours out of nowhere...? And funny how many of them go out of their way to emphasise that if it turns out not to happen, it's not that they were wrong, the plans changed. Yes. Definitely change of plans. Not that the rumour was wrong.
I can't help feeling that a few of these suspect rumour mongers are presenting what you might call an orgy of evidence. I'm not going to bet my life savings on any of their rumours.

You mean right around the time people started B&Ming and stalking a couple of rumor mongers around here (and Dakka) for being even slightly wrong? Can't really blame them for going somewhere they can still talk about it and remain Anon.
In case you haven't noticed, the birdies have pretty much stopped tweeting around here.
If this thread can't stick to the subject of the ACTUAL DARK ANGELS RUMOURS I'll be closing this thread very soon.

I find that a little hard to accept. They're releasing the oldest Marine chapter in a starter box without a rules update? One of those things isn't true. Either they're not in the starter box or they're going to hold the starter box until a rules update is ready. I just can't see it working any other way. But I also can't see them delaying the Dark Angels starter box so far out from the Chaos one--starter sets have always contained two armies to fight against each other. With them moving to two separate boxes, I can't imagine them delaying the second one all that long... If two noobs want to start playing, there needs to be one box for each of them to buy so they have two opposing forces to face off against each other!
Of course, my inability to imagine doesn't mean anything. As you say, the timing of various releases points to Dark Angels not really being that close on the horizon. At the same time however, I feel like GW has been ramping up their operation in terms of release tempo and quality. So like people are saying, maybe they will surprise us.

It's CSM vs DA not Black Templars![]()
Unless of course you're meaning oldest as in the first Legion
Or both of those assumptions are incorrect. Sure the codex is showing it's age but it's definitely not unplayable. It might even be a fairly even match up in the hands of new players and the models that will be included in the set.
We'll see soon enough![]()
40K - SoB - was completed until the WD Dex; GK - lots more to do now
; DE - starting all over again, Ravenwing successors - started
; Orks - how much to paint?!?
WFB - Orcs, WE (forest spirits), DE (WIP)
With all the new figures coming out it's a full restart for the DE now, and then there's a whole load of new GK & now a rebuild for the poor SoB - this has been a very expensive 12 months
I think GW could pull off releasing a new DA book this year, but only if the initial wave is very small: no more than one plastic box set and one to three finecast models. The rest could be released in one or more waves next year.
However I still think we'll have to wait until March or April 2013. GW will want to catch up on Fantasy releases especially.
