I think I see where you're going with this, but you're going to struggle to actually kill anything. Even your lord isn't as dangerous as he could/should be. If you want to try the raising thing anyway, you can drop the protection on the second vampire to free up points. Then maybe drop the sttaff on the lord and something else and you can get some horrors or something.

As Moss pointed out you will struggle killing things. You have a grand total of 18 possible strength 5 or higher attacks. A single unit of Graveguard with greatweapons is more threatening then your entire list. This happens quite frequently as VC can struggle getting high strength attacks. If you give your lord Red Fury instead of Dark Acolyte that will go a long way towards more hitting power. A unit of Black Knights, Blood Knights, Grave Guard, Varghiests, or a pair of Vargulfs would be the next step. You will simply need the hitting power to win combats, and with no shooting to speak of other than the Terrorghiest, you are going to need to win combats.

Re: The Dread Legion of Vascar De Retz

Ok thanks for the help guys, this is my first vampire list for a while (been playing with my Guardsmen recently!), and I wanted a way to fit both my Mortis Engine and my Terrorghiest into a list...

    Here is my (chopped) list:

    LORDS
Vascar De Retz, Vampire Lord- 490pts
Magic level 4 (Vampire), great weapon, heavy armour, shield, Talisman of Preservation, Staff of Damnation, red fury.

    HEROES
    Vampire- 170(1)pts
Magic level 2 (Shadow), heavy armour, shield, aura of dark majesty.

    Necromancer- 155pts
Magic Level 2 (Vampire), The Cursed Book, master of the dead.

    CORE
    Skeletons- 255pts
40 with Spears, FC, The Screaming Banner.

    Skeletons- 175pts
    29 with hand weapons, FC.

    Zombies- 70pts
    20, musician, standard bearer.

    Zombies- 70pts
    20, musician, standard bearer.

    SPECIAL

    RARE
    Mortis Engine- 240pts
    Blasphemous Tome.

    Terrorghiest- 225pts

With these changes I have 160pts left, which could buy me 5 Hexwraiths (with champion), or 3 Varghiests (with Champion). I have some Black Knights (9 of them) and quite a lot of grave guard (20 with hand weapons, 30 with great weapons), but it hardly ever seems worth buying infantry (even heavies) in blocks of less than 20, and the Black Knights rarely seem worth their points unless accompanied with a vanguard of Blood Knights...

    SO... Hexwraiths or Varghiests- opinions?

Hexwraiths... vargheists are great but ld 7 frenzy hurts. A unit of wraits works wonders or 2 vargulfs

Re: The Dread Legion of Vascar De Retz

The list is looking better now. I'd give it a go for a few games and see how you like it. If you have the chance to play at least 10 games in a reasonable amount of time, that's what I would shoot for. I don't like scraping an idea untill it has been given a good run. It looks like you may still be light on high strength attacks but you might be able to get through reguardless with some of your unit builds. Don't forget that dreadknight forces you to issue challenges, which you might want to avoid. If I would look at anything to drop it might be this in favor of an enchanted shield on the level 2 vampire and a luckstone.
