    Fantasy-ising a soulgrinder

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the Soulgrinder look more Old World Appropriate?

I say that in full knowledge that it's a daemonic nightmare and probably not appropriate anywhere, but still...

I wish I did... but the soul grinder looks so out of place in fantasy. Even the WD shots didn't look right - like an high elf army with a wraithlord.

My only suggestion would be to completly replace the lower half. get rid of all the legs and mechanical 'body' they attach to. I'd then mount in on some more fantasy like 'carridge'. Not a carridge itself, but something else.

maybe a steam tank, with the soul grinder body mounted on the hatch, or perhaps a skaven contraption used instead of the tank?

I must admit I like the spider aesthetic, but the cabling and combustion engine don't work for me.

It's not a cheap way to go but you could mount it on a new chasis

I don't think it fits in fantasy at all, but what I've done with the two I've got (I use them for 40k) is to place the pile of bodies from the corpse cart on the back of one of them, along with the side pieces, and the braziers from the same kit on the other.

Some sort of furnace/soul brazier on the back did seem the most logical way to go.

I'd also be looking to Tzeentchifying it as well. Either a bird head, or go entirely headless and mount the face mid-torso and make it like a giant old-school flamer...

Make some normal legs for it. Daemon legs and remove all cabling and such. And guns.

Yeah, robots in WHFB ..... not quite, GW .....

You could get some Daemon or mortal slaves shovelling coal into a boiler, that would look pretty cool.

First of all: get rid of that daemon body. It is just plain ugly and in my opinion the main issue with the model.

I would recommend to go Babayga or deathdealer style meaning a hut/building with or without torso.
Having a tower on legs makes it very easy to add different gun turrets. You could even literally stack them if, as I understand it, your shooting options stack also.
The building needs to blend in with the legs though, at least in the lower sections. So it should have some chaotic armour plating.
If a torso is needed I would, depending on the size, pick one from a suitable model range which has decent designs.
McFarlane might fit or example (spawn 6" figures-be sure that you check the size!)
Then attach the close combat weapons, repaint and you are done.
Do not put in eyes, or someone else's eyes, no matter how much of a good idea you think it is at the time...from a SODA POP blister

you remember that steam-powered spider from wild wild west?
    there you go:
    -> get a steam tank
-> use cannon, boiler and chimney
-> get flamer under boiler rather than "normal" fire
-> replace those small tubes on the daemons back with the big chimney from the steam tank
-> replace that odd looking gun from the daemon with the one from the tank
-> Add lots of cabling and pulleys and stuff
    -> Rusty/weathered finish aaaaand done =)

I must admit the rusty scheme doesn't appeal much - too Nurglesque.

    Re: Fantasy-ising a soulgrinder

give it wheels instead of walking legs, its still a demon engine but far more fitting in the warhammer world

    Re: Fantasy-ising a soulgrinder

Mad thought - texture and paint the legs and mega-claw to look like wood? Or stone? Behold, the walking Temple of Doom

The mechy bits certainly look too hi-tech. Wouldn't be too hard to get them looking more steampunk, but even that doesn't especially suit most fantasy armies, especially Daemons, unless you make Insane Bionic Mutations the theme of the whole army.

GW needed to do a bit more than bunging in a square base to make them fit WHFB. An extra sprue of Fantasyish detail bits would have been a far better solution.

Araknarok body + Soulgrinder torso. Put the plates and spikes on the legs, maybe some engines/exhausts part pushing through the spider carapace for added "evil demon engine" look.

I also like Clang's idea of painting it like wood, might give it a more steam punk/clockwork looks.
Vampire Counts Army : At least 4000pts built, much more waiting for some love!
Tomb King Army : About 6000 pts of troops, all that is left is painting!

Chainmail hiding the "so mechanic" parts of the model, in the Jugernauts works (and also are mechanical), change the mecanical claw for anything more organic, and perhaps use any model as crew, like the soulgrinder were also a chaos dwarf creation because these guys have posessed machines
