I rather have Phil Kelly again then Ward. Kelly did a good job with space wolves and dark eldar and the current one holds up pretty well despite it's age(we can still win matches with it) so I trust him to do another good Eldar codex.
But I would rather have Ward then Cruddance tho.

The one anti-wishlist is having Gav Thorpe ruin another codex.. chaos is very much one list dominates.. i'd hate to see that happen with the Eldar.. I love how it is now where you can field different lits, and still have a chance

Gav Thorpe doesn't work for GW so would be hard for him to ruin the dex!

They'll contract him for the rules portion of the Eldar Codex and let Goto write the fluff.

    Hehe... I'll bite.

Matt Ward and Cruddace decide to team up and collaborate on the codex. After all, with Matt Ward's fluff writing paired with Robin's codex design, how can it not be a master piece?

Eldrad is discontinued. He is dead after all, and it is just silly to keep him in the codex.

An assault vehicle is finally introduced. Sadly, it is Waaaay expensive and can only carry storm guardians.

The new flyers are an exact copy of the Dark Eldar ones, just put in a different box, and all instances of the word "Dark" are taken out.

Wraithguard have the range on their guns reduced further. Toughness is dropped to 5. Their cost is reduced by 2 points.

All psychic powers are replaced with random table options. 90% of which aren't as good as the stuff in the rule book.

Runes of warding are dropped down to a 6 inch radius.

    Ok, I stand corrected.
    Phil would be great.
how about PK and MW? Maybe one would inspire the other. It would make for great fluff and awesome rules representing the great fluff.

After that Dark Eldar dex, I would want none more to write the next Eldar codex than Phil Kelly. (I maintain that the Dark Eldar Codex is the best dex to have come out since the beginning of 4th Edition)

They'll find a way to shoehorn him in if he gets wind of codex writing position

Mat Ward should write the new SM dex (as in not another one for a few years)

    Noooooo Noooooo Nooooo, not Gotooooo!
I've never read anything worth than his "Eldar Prophecy"!
That should really never happen, even in my silliest nightmare.

Totally agree. The fluff, the wargear, everything in the DE-Dex is marked with the seal of style!

I hope this doesn't happen in the new Eldar codex:

Eldar get completely taken out of the game as they were a dying race anyway, they finally died off and are no more, ala the Squats (hey, GW did it once, they are more than capable of doing it again if they believe they have no good ideas for the race).

Or, Eldar get a crappy dumbed down no power bland codex like what Gav Thorpe did to them in 3rd edition. (This stupid bland crap that GW likes to pull with anything not Space Marine has GOT TO GO)!

I DO want to see Eldar brought back to the way they are presented in Epic Space Marine. I want to see lots of powerful Warlocks leading squads of Aspect Warriors, not just guardians. I want to see every non super heavy tank that the Eldar posessed in Epic Space Marine make it into the next codex, including the Warp Hunter and the Firestorm. I want to see the Wave Serpent able to use it's front energy shield as a weapon again. And I want to see Eldar able to assult out of Wave Serpents like they can in Epic Space Marine.

Honestly I thought all codices of that generation were equally bland, Dark Eldar, Chaos, even Space Marines. I started the game around thet time the 3rd Ed eldar codex came out, and looking back at what came after (around the time when the Tau codex and those other dexes that had the same style as the first Tau dex came out and onwards until today), and what was before (especially 2nd edition, which i only got to look into a few years ago for the first time) I had the impression that GW tried to route the game more towards balance at all cost (sort of like 4th Edition DnD) ending with everything being sort of meh, and nothing that would really be impressive on the board, and when that didn't even end up being balanced, they decided to throw it out the window and went back to over the top awesome stuff.

But ... but ... in the latest White Dwarf, Matt Hutson says that "Eldar are arguably the best all-round army in Warhammer 40,000". i mean, he's a professional, so it must be true, right?

You know what else is also really good, possibly overpowered? Pyrovores.

    Nemesis Dreadknight is T6.

Wraithlord imo needs +1 wound (poison is a bit good otherwise) but a 15 pts increase also.

As to who writes it, Matt Ward would at least give eldar a competitive list. Robin Cruddace otoh would give Eldar a couple of good units and several bad ones if his form from TK is anything to judge by.

Main thing I'd want not to see is the eldar guardian treated poorly - an eldar army should be able to have 3 squads of them and not feel like its playing at a severe handicap.

Or hugely overpriced exarch powers that give squads rules that everyone else seems to get for free.

Yeah Tbh Ward > Kelly > Cruddyarse. If Kelly can pull another DE dex out of his hat I'd be more than happy, I just would prefer Eldar getting the Ward treatment since if we're going to get called cheesy constantly we might as well have a codex that justifies it.

Yeah we can win matches, but only with very specific builds even in casual play. I have a swordwind, it contains precisely 0 wraithguard since in...oh christ...17 years God I'm old....I have not been able to justify to myself the cost in £ of a full wraithguard squad and it's very very hard to justify to myself playing all aspects anymore as it's such an easy win for any opponent

It's one of the thing that really bugs me with eldar TBH, you can rarely justify anything outside specific combos if you want to use a cool and or different unit. Every army has its unit that you find cool, you buy it but don't use it very often :P. The problem with eldar is that half the codex fits in that category :P

I hope they don't do what they did last time - leave guardians as rubbish while upping the cost of everything that's popular and slightly lowering the cost of everything that's unpopular.

I hope they don't leave our allies matrix the same. Battle brothers with dark eldar? Whose idea was that?
By RAW a female Farseer cannot manifest any psychic powers. RAW is not the best solution.

eldars and DE don't despice themselves as much as high elves and dark elves. people keep making this kind of analogy and assume they dislke each other because they have a dark version :P they more or less "respectfully disagree" :P
