    40k vocabulary

I have a splendid idea to make newcomers (like me) feel welcome to the forum and to the hobby. I've been playing fantasy way back and sporadic friendly games of 40k the last ten years. I was never the guy who spent a lot of time in forums except the occasional rumour lurking of course. ;-)

Now that I've actually joined a forum I feel confused. I gain a lot of knowledge/info from more experienced forum members. But you guys have so much slang and abbreviations going on that I can't follow and have to ask all the time. It's not just game terms, the whole hobby is full of shortenings and jargong. I think it could also be a cultural thing. I got confused over the abbreviation IP (intellectual property). Even though we've the same term in swedish (immateriell egendom) I've never seen it abbreviated. Not that you would see it everyday anyway.

I searched for a thread on this but didn't find one. Could this be the one? First question then; what is TDA? :-)

TDA is Tactical Dreadnought Armour, most people usually use the nickname Terminator armour.

I find after a while you usually pick things up. It was only a few months ago that I found out what BRB stands for (Big Rule Book)!

Depending on who you ask, it [also] stands for Basic Rule Book, or Big Red Book.

    some other stuff:

MSU: multiple small units- a philosophy for listbuilding around spamming small units that easily "make their points back".
MEQ: Marine-EQuivalent- a unit with toughness 4 and 3+ save.
GEQ: Guard-EQuivalent-something with low toughness and bad save.
Mech: an army where everything is in transports.
Thunderbubble: a very large unit of assault terminators on foot that protects the rest of the list , spread wide.
Bubblewrap: using a unit's placement to protect another unit or objective.
Deathstar: a particularly powerful unit, that, if unchecked, can destroy whole armies.MUCH less efective in competitive environments. example: Nob Bikers, Paladins.
Rock: a powerful unit that is expensive but also somehow moderately effective.still cant beat an army by itself though, but unlike the deathstar, it remains semi-competitive in all formats. example: 5 termies on land raider.
"in the current BT codex, we dont have Piranhas; we have landspeeders. we dont have Crisis suits units; we have msu terminator squads with dual cyclone missiles with tankhunters. thats very different!... why are you laughing? we are SO into cc!"
