Catwell's Ec army, with some custom sculpts and conversions

Hi I'm Catwell, and heres my small Ec force log. I'm waiting for the new starter set/ csm releases before I add any new chaos marines. I think up in my loft there might be some but they'd be the first gen of csm plastics with a few old metal ones, so I'll wait.

The termi's in this pic were green stuffed non chaos termi's, back before I was a digital sculptor (ages ago). They have demonic faces on there armor, wings instead of trophy racks, Termi lord pieces and shoulder pads inspired by the Golden demon lustwing entry (i think it came in second) by Boltman(his are far better than my nasty green stuff attempt).

I used my hand as a reflector on the cameras flash, so all of these pics are far pinker than in real life.

Termi lord, pretty standard apart from the gold horn on his shoulder.

These are a few of my demonettes, I did these back before I became a digital sculptor so there just re poses with some green stuff to make them look more like the old good demonettes.

This is my one off sculpt, custom built walker just for my Ec army . The arms, shoulders and head move (the claw arm on mine broke after i was too aggressive in trying to remove it, so thats glued in place ), and they can be removed as they're not glued, plus theres no magnets involved. The circular saws on its legs used to spin, but the paint has stuck them in place. The plasmas remove-able, and a screaming mouth over a speaker mesh can be put in instead to act as some sort of sonic weapon. Mainly its dark grey with a black wash, and the neon pink areas are fluo pink paint.

This is the Ether Nightmare model I made and personally use. It's a stand in/ alternate model thats non Gw related and can be used for a variety of roles in many different war-games.... .

Its a fully poseable 6 armed lust genie/djinn/demon kit with a lot of bits, I put her in a walking/swiping pose. Her skin is space wolves grey dry brushed over and over with white. Then I took red and smeared some in certain areas, Putting a bit of paint down then wiping it off with some tissue. The gold areas are burnished gold gradated in the shadows from green to black and hi-lighted with bonewhite. I wont go on about her too much as theres plenty of media on her about the web already.

Back in the day I also hand sculpted a dread and a dp out of super sculpey, plus a Questor out of plasticard (and a foamboard decimator tank). But now I can digitally do minis the quality of these hand mades isn't up to par(I've been doing cg models since Quake 1 came out in 97, so I'm a lot more versed in cg than green stuff), so I hide em away. I'm even looking to redo the termi's in the top pic and produce some female demons that I can use as stand ins/alt models.

That Contemptor... That's EXACTLY how a Slaaneshi contemptor should look. Great work, and very chaosy in the right way.

    Cheers,

Any chance of bigger pictures of all models? Especially your Ether Nightmare, Contemptor an Land Raider?

    Thanks all,
I'll break out the camera tonight and get some more snaps of the contemptor from more angles and i wont optimise there size as much so you can get a good look.(i wasn't sure of what sizes Warseer accepts, so i put up smaller ones to be safe)

This is my land raider, and its pretty standard really, 'cept that its pink.

Theres a load of pics and a video of the Ether nightmare on my blog, the links in my sig.

I might do some terrain soon, it would make a better backdrop than either a coffee table or the back of a hero-quest board.

Hmm having to double post here, never a good thing. anyway; Heres some bigger pics for Razers

Heres the model with its arms and head removed.

I havent got the hang of mini photography yet, it looks better in real life. But you'll have to take my word on that.

I'm not sure what to make next, Some more one offs for my army, some more non ip infringing models for sale.
Any suggestions? I can make anything really.

Nice work on the sculpting. The Dreadnought is especially well done.

Ok i'll start building some more, I think some 28mm female demons are in order. And i need to finish off my pestilence model, possibly a quadruped female nightmare , maybe some true scale stuff too. Any other suggestions are welcome.

I have a few marines carrying some "evil instruments" I made, I'll post some pics when there painted.

    That Dreadnought is really fantastic!
And your Ether Nightmare is 3D-modeled and then printed? That's pretty awesome too!

Re: Catwell's Ec army, with some custom sculpts and conversions

Yup the ether nightmare was 3d modelled then 3d printed , as was the dread.

^^ heres a render of the next minis to be printed out. Some female demons, femons or possibly demales. I have some more in the works so stay tuned

Those 3D girls are interesting. I'd shorten the tabards and may be swap the feet for claws or hooves.

    Looking forward to more.

Nice 3d render but kinda agree with DarkMark, maybe shorten the tarbards (looks like they could step on it easily and trip), turn the feet into claws and maybe with few have them have claw hands

Re: Catwell's Ec army, with some custom sculpts and conversions

hey, an update is in order methinks.

The 3d render above went to print but unfortunately it was rejected due to thin walls, so ive got to look through all 7 minis and find the culprits(its like wheres wally but with polygons and measuring...). Also the large rotten pestilence model was rejected for thin walls too(for the 3rd time). However the one off lustwing termis did go through and will arrive on the 10th. I made them true scale too (about 4 cm high) so thats a glimmer of hope.

Ah the tabards are long for a reason, the ones with the really long tabards aren't standing there leaping and the tabards are what hold them in the air, (like the harlequin minis). I cant give them claws as it would be too close to gw demonettes, as these are for production and sale they have to have some design distance. And the swords are a way to make them universally stand-in-able, personally i was going to use mine as a stand in for bloodletters.

A welcome flash of 'Wow!'. Would love to see more of the Ether Demon...
Mini-photography can be frustrating- my very amateur tip would be be to get as many soft light sources as you can shining on the mini, ideally daylight :-)
Other folk will have wiser words also no doubt.
