I'm a BA player, and I love Mephiston, but lacking the AP2 really hurts. At this point, I'd say any character in terminator armor with a thunder hammer or power fist can take him out. Unless the character has no internal warrior, and if they fail once they die to double str instant death. At this point if I run Meph I don't send him after models in terminator armor.
Do as my brother does. Mephiston can single handedly tear through a guard platoon or power meq's so thats where he send him. On the other hand Astorath and a retinue of jumt pack Death Company fly around and rips anything remotely terminator like a new one (re-roll inv. saves and woounds and hits drowns terminators 2+/3++ or no)
Repent! For tomorrow you die!
My Dark Angels log of talking to myself.
++Nothing else is of consequence.++ Dreadnought up. 16/09/12
Loveless-The bit about Asmodai going "Laughter? Okay, no talking - one year." is pretty much "win" in my book. Now I know that his model is pointing and shouting "Shut the ---- up!" at his target - right before unleashing a barrage of hatred-filled concussive blows. Ah, warms my heart.
Yeah I use Meph as a troop hunter or tank hunter. I don't really go after terminators with him. Yeah Astrorath with DC can force mass saves on them to fail. His axe is AP3 btw. Its not a power axe. It is infact unique, and is there for AP3. So Terminators still get their 2+ save. But trying to get that save against like 30-50 attacks depending on # of DC, with re-roll hit and wound, and yeah their bound to fail. Haha.
It stats that weapons which are considered "unique" and have their own special rules are treated as a such, and is just a power weapon in addition to their rules. You can not just look at the weapon and assume, oh its an axe, it must follow the rules of a power axe. His two handed axe is unique, and has its own rules. Someone actually pointed this out before as well, but on the page in which it describes the special rules for Blood Angels (Blood Rage, Shall know no fear, etc), in the top right hand corner there is a paragraph about wargear in the BA book. Weapons in which are named on the character profiles are considered unique.
As for the FAQ, it actually was not FAQed that it his treated as a power axe. There for you can not assume it should be at all. It is an issue that many players are having, assuming things should follow this cause of the way it looks.
Here is the quote from the thread. Its on Page 12 of the Blood Angels Tactical thread on Warseer.
"Sorry to bring this up again
I don't know if this has been resolved elsewhere, but it's only recently come to my attention and as I haven't seen it in this specific BA thread thought it was worth mentioning; it was recently pointed out to me that Pg 23 of the BA codex (top right paragraph) actually defines what a 'unique weapon' is, and as a result Dante and Asoraths' axes are AP3, as are Glaives Encarmine. (Which is a shame as I was looking forward tohaving a mix of AP3/2 on them, but at least it seems to be definiatively answered)."
Just good for clarification.
But anyway, thats another issue. Yeah in terms of challenges, for himself it may make it a lil harder. Thing is though, for the purposes of this thread, I don't think he would fair well against a challenge from a character sporting a power fist or thunder hammer. He can be insta killed. I think challenges have really made things such as a 2+, Eternal Warrior, and AP2 weapon very important.
In a way, I actually tried out DC - Tyco in my last game, and he wrecked. Are his stats amazing? No not really, but I ran him with DC (No JP) and a chapalen for re-roll hits, and ran him into a squad of terminators and he wrecked. Since the terminators were sporting I 1 weapons, and I went first. I hit all my attacks, and with furious charge I wound on 3+, with digital weapons to re roll a failed wound. His CC attacks allow no armor saves, so may as well be AP 2, and all of them died.
If Tycho had eternal warrior he would easily make this list.
As it is he'll either get lucky and kill characters like Lysander in 1 turn, or get splatted by the return strike.
The same can be said for drazhars lack of invulnerable save, but vs a character with an AP3 weapon he is golden.
Yeah that is the problem, he has no EW. I mean ya can bank on a 4++ save he has, with feel no pain, assuming its not a double str weapon. But yeah. You're hoping you can do the job. And considering a character like Lysander has a 3++, I doubt he would fall in one turn.![]()
I think its cool that he has no EW, giving beasts like Lysander with 2+/3++ 4 wounds EW in addition to all the other stuff he has is kinda excessive it devalues things like Tyrant where their t6 suddenly means v little due to not having invulnerable and only having 3+ save and costing so much more. But a Lot of marine characters are visciously undercosted anyway so its no wonder.
I like my Black Templar Techmarine. Mine comes with a power maul. Put a servo harness on him, give him a storm shield and he's a 2w 2+/3++ face puncher with 3 str 6 ap4, and 2 str 8 ap 2 attacks. And he gets Wall of Death if you charge him, along with a chance to plink you with his harness pistol.
You can't spell manslaughter without laughter!
Yeah, well eternal warrior on Tyco would be nice. But for what he is, being only 175, hes pretty damn good. Lyscander I think is the cost of a land raider is he not? Somewhere up there. For a decent cost DC - Tyco hes pretty beast mode.
i am interested to see how Jain Zar will do in challenges this edition.
How much is Lyscander?
not when he meets the Necron Olord with MSS 2++/3++ with MSS and WS. Swarmie has a good chance of killing himself and dont forget has to reroll his own passed invul saves for insta death!! the Olord can just sit back and make a cup o tea and let swarmie do the work. lol.
Again Olord with the kit will nail mephiston. in a tourney 1 Olord killed M in a single round. My oppo was far too confident and even though i told him the rules before hand, still was in a rush to get into assault range. wounded himself 3 times plus 2 wounds from the Olord. OMG! necrons are OP was the cry i believe.

Swarmlord with Telepathy wins outright. Heck, even Swarmlord with Biomancy wins. Most fighty characters are going to ignore each other's armor anyway. Swarmlord forces your successful invulns to be rerolled, then a precious Leadership on 3d6 or disintegrate (if you don't have eternal warrior).
In a battle of wits... Swarmlord Wins
in a battle of brawn.. Swarmlord Wins
in a battle of strategy.. Puppies definately win here, but Swarmlord with a close second.
