Thread: War Room

    Re: War Room

Seems to be working ok on my phone now. I am happy enough with it.

Paddy - I dont think they are ever going to make War room a true army builder (like ibodger). you can put your cards in a list but from my understanding of what PP has said is that they arent going down the list validation route. (though i could be wrong)

    Re: War Room

The thing is that putting lists together for new players can be a little intimidating, especialy if they are working with mercenaries because of how the points system that PP uses with warmachine & hoardes. In the past iBodger was a god send for new players getting to grips with the points system or players coming from other games systems easing into a fairly different way of doing things. Thats gone now.

I know an army builder isn't the apps only function so what have we gained.

A way to track damage & effects electronicly, which in my experience with the app crashes and wipes out that data every game I've tried to use it in. I'm sticking with a dry erase marker and cards, they don't magicly wipe themselves clean randomly durring a game.

A way of referencing the rules. I own pdfs of every book PP has ever produced. I also own a hard copy of almost every book PP has produced and the PDFs for the ones I don't were purchased (RPG Books). I can search these without worrying about my phone crashing completely. The only advantage the app provides over these is that it gets updated with the errata. So far an advantage that is outwieghed by the apps many flaws.

I've tried using the app and its many features. I've found that in its current state it is unusable. It doesn't work as an army builder, it doesn't work as a gaming aid & it doesn't work as a reference. So I've lost a great gaming reasource that made it easier for me to play PPs' games & made it easier to introduce new people to PPs' games and what I've gained is a waste of my phones memory, at least until it gets out of the alpha testing phase it currently seems to be in.

This is coming from a person who was excited by the concept of war room, who was happy when PP announced (falsely) that the army builder function would not require the purchase of decks and didn't mind that iBodger was taken down when I tought that PP wouldn't botch up replacing a fan created app with a professionaly developed one. This app has been a huge dissapointment to somebody who had hoped to use it to enhance his gaming experience.

There's still Forward Kommander. It's not on your phone, but it's still very much around.

Which haven't updated to include the collossals yet so I have to wonder if Forward Kommander has suffered the same fate as iBodger.

I don't want to make excuses or anything, but it's not the easiest thing in the world to develop apps for Android.
There's "minor bugs caused by unavoidable target market fragmentation" and then there's "never bothered to make it work".

By all accounts this is the latter.

Just played a game against a buddy using it on a Galaxy Tab and it worked much better than my own experience on my phone. There was still bugs like information missing from cards (Ol Rowdys' arm systems aren't labeled and tunderbolt was missing from the gun mages card) and he kept accidently exiting from the game (at least it asked him if he was sure each time) and maarking damage seemed clunky because of the slider. I don't see the advantage of using it over an A4 pocket sheet with cards in it.

Yeah I must admit its a first me being disappointed at not being able to spend my money!

The app downloads fine but there appears to be an Android issue with purchasing decks.

    Re: War Room

to start with the app wouldnt work for me, but it does seem to get regular updates, its now working fine only crashes if phone goes idle for too long and when i unlock screen saver on my HTC Desire HD it says its failed and closed etc.... Is their a way to change phones idle/ screen saver settings any other HTC users out their? maybe War Room could impliment an override option so it stays on during battles (guess i'd need to plug it in). Aside from that its great for learning about non-khador and troll units while im sat on the toilet.

    Re: War Room

Ive watched a customer using it. It cost him a big whack of money for the decks, seems buggy and slow. People with a pack of cards in toploaders sped past him when he tried using it, and he now just uses it to reference units he doesn't know. Seems like a rushed release.

    FK currently does have Colossals.

So Paddy, are you going to Conspiracy?
Lion: Hey Russ, you'll never guess what!
Russ: Yeah, I know! Magnus is a traitor! To think that he could accuse our beloved brother Horus of turning against us. Impossible! But don't worry. I have taken care of it, Horus asked me to destroyed Prospero and I have. Magnus shouldn't be bothering us again.
Lion: ... actually, I was going to say that Magnus was right. Horus has turned to Chaos, 7 other Legions have joined him and he has destroyed 3 Loyal Legions already!
    Russ:

To be fair at the time I said that they didn't have them up yet, including the Stormwall which had been out for a while.

I'm only paranoid if it turns out that there was no-one out to get me .
