    Standard of Discipline and General

    Hi guys.

The other day watching a game between 2 friends (empire and vc) I saw the empire player wearing in the great sword master unit the Standart of Discipline that give +1 ld to the unit and the general inside so he told me the inspiring presence is with the +1 Ld for the rest of units close to him(because the general, like i said, was inside the great sword master unit). I thought he was wrong but reading the description maybe is a right use of the magic banner.

¿What do u think about this? ¿Is available to use it to give +1 to the inspiring presence rule?

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

He is right. It's in the FAQ.

This is actually answered in the FAQ, but the essence of it is that the standard of discipline does two separate things; it gives the unit (and everyone in it) +1 Ld, and it also prevents the unit from utilising the Inspiring Presence rule. What it doesn't do, however, is take the Inspiring Presence rule away from any models in the unit, nor does it prevent any oher means of passing Ld to the unit.

Now, if the banner did two other things, like giving Frenzy and stopping the unit using IP, or giving +1 Ld and stopping the unit using the Hold Your Ground rule, I think people would get less confused, but, just because it's doing two Ld type things, people get confused and forget the General is still a character in his own right and doesn't need to use IP to pass his Ld to the unit he is currently in.

Most armies have access to a Ld 9 Lord character and an elite unit with access to a magic standard. Also, most armies have access to the common magic items, which include the Crown of Command and the Standard of discipline.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that these things can combine into a General Ld 10, and there's really no reason not to make his body guard unit as large as possible: The cost of the Crown of Command is not related to the unit size after all.

Yes. In short, the General receives +1 Ld. Everyone but the unit with the Standard can use Inspiring Presence. The unit with the Standard does not use this rule. It uses a different one, namely the Ld transfer of a character within.

If the General had been elsewhere, those Greatswords would only have been Ld 9 (either because of the Standard or because of Inspiring Presence), or Ld 8 (without those factors).
