Bringing out the big guns. Spruglys New blog.

    Hi all,
It's about time I started a new blog, the last one tailed off a bit and got a bit big and unwieldy. If you've not seen it tho please give it a look, there's a lot of pics of cool stuff there if I do say so myself!

    But, onwards and upwards.

I have recently bought a greater brass scorpion and a warhound titan. These will be my next 2 models to build and paint, or at least that's the plan.

However I have a couple of models to finish first, namely a stormtalon and a captain. Both are nearly done, the stormtalon needing just the base finishing.

So I thought id show the talon off first.

As you can see I've lengthened the tail and fitted the assault cannons right up in the body of the thing. Looks much more streamlined like this and not so stubby! The weapon pods are also magnetized so I can swap them out between games.

Cheers all, hope you like it.

awesome talon... do you have a build pics of how you extended the tail? I always thought that is what would improve the model, and you have proven it. It'd be nice to see how you did it exactly, because it's pretty clean conversion you done there. Nice work

Unfortunately no I didn't take any pics other than this one

, but for a brief description of how I did it read on.

Carefully cut off the rear fins from the body pieces.
    Glue the fin sides together.
I then taped the top and bottom fins to a pencil (to ensure they'd be straight) touching each other at the back point.
The gap between them I filled by gluing in strips of plasticard. This held the fins together nice and firmly once dry and off the pencil.
The front tips of the fins fitted nicely just over the end of the tail ofln the body (which is now glued together)
I glued the fins on adding some more little bits of plasticard to strengthen the join.
Then all I had to do is cut panels to cover the hole and fill the gaps.

    Bad diagram follows.

I also left the turret for the assault cannons off, cut down the bit on the body where they mount and glued the guns straight up inside the recess, and cut down the stalks that the missile pods mount on.

    Hope this helps.

Good work on extending the Storm Talon. Which Chapter will it be fighting for?

The talon is for my Scarlet dragons chapter, which you can see in the first few pages of my first blog if you fancy a look.

thanks sprugly, great approach to the tail extension. Very simple. I'll be doing this in the near future. What thickness of plasticard did you use for the outside panel on the tail extension?

The thinnest I have, not sure exactly how thin it is, no more than 0.5mm. I think as long as you get the tail fins straight along the back and get that panel the right shape you can't go much wrong.

Hope you get yours sorted to, you'll have to post a pic when you do it.

not for a while, it's just me plotting in an evil manner for the long term. Currently working on the current chaos stuff, getting it out of the way before gw dumps a bunch of cool new kits in the near future. But the ST is the first thing on my list when I get back to my DAs, along with one of those kit bashed double Stormraven thunderhawks.

is it posible for you to take a pic of the under side, just to see what the assualt cannons look like please, as now building mine and copying yours as its a vast improvement on the normal kit.

They look great. Maybe their power armour plugs in direct to the flight chair instead of a backpack?

DF, might I suggest cutting the angle at the short side of the triangle, so that the two longer sides of the triangle match the lines of the existing storm talon tail

    Hi all,

First up today I have taken a couple of better pics of the talon, including the now finished base.

But that's nothing really new, what I have got is my new marine captain. Ryu Son, captain if the scarlet dragons 3rd company, with magnetized jump pack and backpack!

The idea being that I can use him as a normal captain with jump pack or use him as a korroso khan proxy if I fancy for a change.

Next up, will be the brass scorpion. He's had his bath and is ready to be built, though I snapped a couple of bits doing it! So much for the resin bending easily in warm water!

Just a mk4 head, not sure which kit its from, got it off a bits site.

The shield is a tau shield generator, filed and filled to be a flat dome shape.
