Imperial Guard and the new Allies Chart

Ok so with 6th edition out i'm sure lots of people are searching for obscure ways to ally their armies with some other army cuz they have something useful, and specifically the Imperial Guard have so many disparate groups that you could conceivably come up with a way to ally them with almost anyone.

In my case I love my Space Wolves, i also really like the Catachan imperial guard regiments... i know ice death worlds and jungle death worlds are worlds apart... but they're both just so cool to me... so how can i tie them together?
    +++
well through my reading I know the Space Wolves have close ties with the Terran Navigator house Belisarius (They provide the Sons of Russ with navigators and the Wolves in return provide the Wolfblade to body guard for Belisarius) And the wealthy navigator house runs a promethium refinery on the Jungle world of Hyades. This processing world has a PDF of retired mercenaries and Imperial Guardsmen as well as a prevalent group of.... CATACHAN JUNGLE FIGHTERS!!

What i want to know is, is this too vague a link to field a tabletop army of Space Wolves and Catachans? and does anyone out there have some even more awesome ways to link the Guard into their armies??

It's not a big leap to turn catachan jungle fighters into space vikings. Box of chaos marauders, box of jungle fighters, mix and match. Enough bits to satisfy your every desire for horny beefcake half-naked guardsmen with beards.

I think this can work to make your allies gel well with your existing army visually. You don't really need a deep fluff backstory to ally Space Wolves and Catachan Jungle Fighters anyway, but actually making them look like savage iceworld guard will make them work together much better thematically.

You don't need any link really. All that is needed is that both forces happens to be in the same combat zone. In some ways I think it works better if you don't try and force a connect ion to much. If the Wolves are fighting on a Jungle world and there are PDF/mercenaries/ Guard forces there it would be logical for them to work together.

This shows the two ways you can run allies- either using the rules to represent something thematically modelled to be a part of your regular army (several people I know are using Grey Knight rules for Mechanicus detatchments).

Alternatively if you like two rather disparate forces the ally rules allow you to have both alongside each other regardless of how odd jungle fighters may look next to the space Vikings!

The Catachans don't only fight in jungles, and the Space Wolves don't only fight in arctic wildernesses.

Both forces were present on Armageddon during the third war.

There is the whole 'Danes in the new world' angle to explore

There is no reason why you wouldnt see Space Wolves fighting in swamps/jungle, you could even meet halfway and base them in a temperate woodland world.

I would definitely go for the marauder mix and match as well. Great Idea.

Not that I'm opposed to the general idea, but this specific instance seems like a bit of a stretch.

And things that require tactics are BAD. The less tactics involved, the better, and it means less things can go wrong.

It's not the GK part that makes the list viable but Coteaz and Henchmen + Techmarines, Dreadknights, Dreadnoughts and Razorbacks.

Well seeing as my Wolves are already based in a rather snowy woodland theme, would it be viable to simply make them a catachan regiment that has been posted to an ice world campaign for long enough that they have adapted some dress and equipment to the new climate?

Well they might catch a cold, the good news though if they get into B2B contact with some Tau, you'll wipe out the entire race
