    2000p skaven ard boyz tournament list

    Fantasy Army: Skaven
    howdy,

    got a 2012p tournament coming up next week, underneath is the list I'm planning to take. All comments an critics greatly appreciated! The tournament is uncomped so the general motto is: "hit me with all the filth you've got bro!"

    here goes:

    Grey seer + warpstone token

    Grey seer ( general)

    bsb + shield and storm banner

    Engineer+ brass orb

    Engineer+ doomrocket

    4 naked engineers

    6 X 39 slaves with musican

    2 warp lightning cannons

    2 doomwheels

    6 gutter runners with slings and poison

    6 gutter runners with slings and poison

    rat dart

    rat dart

    There's a lot of skaven filth there, granted. But you don't seem to have anything that will actually win a round of combat? Is it not worth taking a single decent fighting object in case anything of the enemy munches through the slaves? (eg a Helpit?)

    Plenty of nasty Skaven in their. Got to agree with post above lots of slaves will not provide a victory.

    Also I don't belie you have enough core points as rat darts don't count and your slaves are 480 total unless they have shields spears or sum things else.

    I,wouldn't really feel threatened by this list as even skeletons will over come the units, doom wheels and seers are the biggest threats and they are not always going to be deadly either to few power dice or rolling to short also consider that pretty much nothing has a save in this list.

    I'd maybe vary it up a bit clanrats with weapons teams plaguemonks etc

    Yeah....nothing in that list will kill much.

    With Skaven, think of it this way.....how am i going to kill my enemy? what in my army will kill my enemy?

    Thankfully Mr Vetock left us with many filthy and digustingly beardy things. Also, skaven tend to work best in lowish point games. So at 2000pts or less, you can get an utterly disgusting force that your opponent will have a hard time killing.

    EG: 1000pts

    plague priest, naked apart from plague furnace
    30 plague monks with std, muscian and plague banner
    hellpit
    2 units of 61 slaves in a bus with full command

    This is about 1000pts, has 2 heavy hitters and two evil tarpits. Most other armies will struggle to field units of sufficient size and power to deal with that threat.

    Now in 2000....think of that armies and add to it. Think where your killing power is going to come from. Stormvermin with a chieftan and skaven brew is nice. Couple that with a grey seer toting the plague spells like bless with filth and you're good. more hell pits...nice but watch for the flaming banners. In my experience, if a unit can kill one hellpit it'll munch through all the hellpits! So be wary.....

    The poisoned weapon gutter runners are nice in 2k. rat darts are cool but slaves can tarpit so unless you're redirecting frenzied stuff i prefer slave units...even 20 man units can hold up stuff with a general nearby.

    Dont bother with 2 grey seers......a quarter of your army cost is a waste. take one and put him in a clan rat bunker with a naked bsb and maybe a naked warlord for ld 10

    Thanks for all the feedback guys! first off thanks bazzal for pointing out that this list was effectively illegal due to less than 25 % core, fixed that by adding more slaves (yay). As to adress the general concern this last packs no punch. In CC that is basicly entirely true. Nothing in the list will put a dent in even the mushiest of things. That being sad, this baby does pack some serious ranged firepower and funny trinkets which basicly what the damage is supposed to come from. 2 wlc's and six doomwheel bolts do tend to take down the enemies hard hitters quite fast if used correctly. Same goes for dual grey seer. I am a huge fan of dual grey seer for one simple reason. you can take a fully pimped out optimal build warlord (war litter, 4ward save talisman, dragonhelm sword of anti heroes, heavy armour shield) and this still basicly is just a rat that not nearly packs enough punch to truly make a difference in CC. I have played this guy many times and even though he is pretty hard to kill, if he dies you lose your ld bubble and basicly crie. For both aformentioned reasons i concluded that putting your general in cc is a big no go for skaven. Drawing on that I played around with a naked warlord ( nastiest gw sentence ever :') ) but that was basicly wasting 90 points for 1 extra LD. 2 grey seers gives you one huge upside: since dreaded is signature and both can have it, you can 6dice dreaded every freaking turn with no regards at all since blowing up your non general seer is far less of a problem. On top of that, counting on average rolls for your D3 free tokens and just average even once in a battle for winds of magic, you got 12 dice and can pull out 2 13th's in one turn if **** gets really funky. In my opinion, dual grey seer is just to good to pass up, but i seem to be rather in the minority on thinking that

    As to adress the lack of punch in this list I am kinda torn between this one and the list I run most regularly ( but i got kinda bored with it which is why i intended on taking the first one)

    it is basicly the same as the first for core ( except fixed the issue with the darts not counting for core by dropping them and adding more slaves)

    dropped 4 naked engineers and slimmed the gutter runners down to 5 each, lose the storm banner and gain 50 points in the rare departement by taking spiked abom instead of 2 doomwheels

    that leaves room for

    abom
    25 plague monks with mus banner and plague banner
    6*42 slaves with mus
    dual grey seer
    2 painlocks with orb and rocket
    2*5 gutter runners
    2 wlcs
    bsb

    Trouble with pimping your characters is in my opinion (and experience) at least its throwing points down the drain. IMO the greyseer is there to cast three spells: wither, plague and bless with filth. Dont bother with dreaded 13th as most of the time you'll fail to cast it or do very little. Sure ganking a unit of tzeentch chosen with all the dirtyness is fun but if you dont wipe it out it still isnt any vp's and it will still hack apart everything in your army. Against hordes its a waste. Stick the grey seer in a small bunker and get him in position to make best use of the excellent plague domain spells.

    A pimped up warlord is still a fairly gimpy rat who will get his furry backside handed to him in close combat....chaos lord.....vampire lord.....yup

    All i take is a naked general to give all troops within 12" LD 10. Couple that with 50 man slave buses and they're leadership 10 until the end of time. A bsb there aswell and they aint going anywhere. He just doesnt have the statline to do much in close combat imo. Maybe i'm just unlucky but tooled up all he ever did for me was provide my opponents with easy vp's.

    The revised list is better but the plague monks are still too easy to kill (25 is too small imo) and even with the plague banner they will lack hitting power. Go horde, drop one of the grey seers which handily frees up just enough points for a priest and furnace. Now get another 10 plague monks from somewhere and you have a horde of doom. without a champ that will put out a maximum of 42 rerollable hits and wounds plus 4 rerollable str 6 hits (if you give the priest a flail) d6 str 6impact hits and an artillery dice worth of str 5 hits in the first round of combat, plus the d6 toughness tests. Anything that survives that you just concede Pretty much nothing will though.......
