Do GW Execs indulge in their own company?

I read the financial report last night and was glancing at the bios of the Board of Directors and was wondering if any of them play WHFB, 40k, etc or collect models/paint models.

I know the Chairman's bio said he was originally a store manager at some time and was a part of the buyout/takeover in the 90s.

It's not like it's easy for them compared to other Execs. If I'm the Chairman for Coca-Cola then yea...I drink Coke...it's just a beverage, not a hobby or serious investment. But maybe some board members at GW are more of the mindset "What's a Waaagh?? Whatever, make it look like the green monsters look cool attacking the humans."

Some of Mr Wells' miniatures were featured on their blog not very long ago, so presumably yes.

Wells is the only one I am aware of, though, but there's probably one or two others.

I would have phrased the title differently.

I've played Mark Wells. Came across as a nice guy, knew what he was doing, nice army and a good game.

IIRC Tom Kirby does (or at least did)...

Mark Wells (again IIRC) came in from Boots (?) and started to get involved when he joined, more as a learning exercise, but was bitten by the bug

The group exec had Mark who plays, no one else does, eg Kevin or Tom. As you move into the management teams for each division/country then you are getting a mix of people, most of the managers in the sales companies will play though

I imagine it could be both wonderful, and terrible being his son. Wonderful because you can have anything (GW related) at anytime and in whatever quantites you wanted for essentially nothing, and terrible because as soon as anyone finds out who you are you will be bombarded with requests for cheap stuff and insider info. What army did he play in the campaign, if I may inquire?

Actually in the topic about Wells army when it appeared on the GW blog someone mentioned they saw him queuing up and paying for his purchases in store like everyone else. It could be he (and his son through him) just get a regular staff discount. It would be interesting to know for sure. Not exactly an important issue though.

Speaking of which, could someone confirm or deny that this guy said something along the lines of "Our customers/gamers don't care about miniature quality and will buy them all the same." at a share owner meeting awhile back.

He most likely does, but I very much doubt anyone would, or could stop him going into the factory and grabbing handfulls of sprues, or just rolling around in the stockroom laughing like a maniac shouting "Mine, MINE!!!! wahahahah! All Mine!!!" like I probably would

Re: Do GW Execs indulge in their own company?

Apart from a few exceptions, I can't imagine the execs do to be honest. They're in their positions because they're qualified businessmen, not because they're die-hard hobbyists.

For example, the directors in my company (the worlds 4th largest privately owned water company) have no experience with the "day job" so to speak, but they run a good business.

I wouldn't recommend trying it with Dark Eldar sprues. Spiky and sharp.

Surely that is part of the appeal for Dark Eldar players.....

That's one of the first images that sprung to mind, yes - although with less of the resin, that's more fools gold than the real thing sadly...

Yes, it was in an old corporate statement a while back.
