    harlequins in 6th edition

Hi all. Have been planning to drag my old harlequin bits out because i used to love playing them. Back when an 'army' was 20 completely individual models flitting about.

As far as i am aware there is no official 5th or 6th edition harlequin army list but is there a list which is the 'gold standard' and widely accepted as balanced and kosher. Dont plan on playing any tournies so if i can wave the right list in front of friendly opponents, hopefully i can play it.

I don't know of one, but do you really need it? You can take harlequins in a DE army, use wytches as mimes, reavers as harlequin jetbikes, trueborn as units of death jesters. No-one can argue with the legitimacy, when it's an official codex list.
By RAW a female Farseer cannot manifest any psychic powers. RAW is not the best solution.

I agree with smileyface, the Dark Eldar Codex is the way to go in my book.

Thats a pretty good idea, i will give that a try but i like the flavour of the harlequin rules. For example the crazy.charges of solitaires. I wonder if dark eldar would keep the ultra elite stealthy feel. Like i said will try it.

I would go so far as to suggest playing Codex Dark Eldar with Eldar allies. That way you can get a 4th harlie squad as allied unit. Then play your Great harlequin as an Archon or Succubus, a solitaire as Lelith. Mimes would probably go well as wyches.

I think dark eldar have the best chances of giving you the elite and stealthy feel that you want. Well if they won't nobody will.

Maugan ra might work as leader of the eldar detachment. Looks like a harlie anyway.

I feel Codex Eldar (and it is the codex I use for my Harlequin army) is in fact better than Dark Eldar, because Harlequins use 'craftworld' tech (shuriken weapons, monofilament weapons) and because that gives you access to psykers. As troops you could take storm guardians, rangers and jetbikes while staying true to the fluff, dark reapers as death jesters, wraithlords as spirit walkers and Yriel/Jain Zar/Asurmen/Karandras as Great Harlequin and Eldrad/Farseer as High Warlocks.

true that eldar have the more authentic weapons, but dark eldar have the Venom, and the deadlier CC HQs and i think Wyches make for better mimes than storm guardians. A talos could also be a nice spirit walker.

What breaks the spirit of the list for me in that setup is that the mimes would have better invulnerable saves than the harlequins.

And I do know that the Eldar section of 40k online is working on a Harlequin codex project:

Completely unofficial, but like you said, you don't plan on playing in any tournies.

That list is the best looking one i have seen so far, seem to avoid the common home brew trap of super powering everything.

Exactly, Harlequins can take Eldar Venom AND if pressed Eldar and Dark Eldar are battle brothers so...you could still ally with Dark Eldar for say a unit of Reaver jetbikes along with a cheap HQ and troop choice.

While there is a 40KOnline "Project" for a Harlequin Codex, the link you posted is not it. That is my own home-brew work, and while it does include ideas gathered from other sources and has been modified based on numerous suggestions from others, it is not a collaborative work but rather what I have decided is the best representation of the Harlequins. The 40KO "project" thread can be found in a sticky in the same forum as my Codex's thread if you are interested in it, but I don't believe it has been updated for 6th Edition at this point.

Assuming you were talking about my list, thanks. I really try hard to make things balanced and fair. As a side note, I plan on making a few changes based on some suggestions I have had recently, most notably changing the Webway Rift to a Fortification instead of an Elites choice. Not quite sure when I will have time to publish the update, but it should be soon...

FYI - there is a discussion thread for my Harlequin Codex right here on Warseer as well. The link is in my signature.

As to counts-as, I agree that an Eldar/Dark Eldar hybrid list works best. Lelith makes a fantastic stand-in for the Solitaire. Many of the Phoenix Lords can easily represent Great Harlequins, as could a tooled up Autarch, Archon, Lady Malys, Asdrubael, etc. The biggest hurdle is deciding which Troops choices work best for you. I like Wyches and Storm Guardians as a "Chorus" type troop (I dislike using Mimes as "lesser" Harlequins, as they were actually the most powerful Harlequin troopers back in Rogue Trader (i.e. non-characters). More of my thoughts on counts-as Harlequins can be found at the end of my Codex list, so I will not bother reposting it all here.
