    1000 pts. Dark Elves for a double.

    Fantasy Army: Dark Elves
    Hi!

    I'm about to prepare for a doubles, so I got to settle on what to paint up. I got a bunch of leftover Witch Elves that I haven't played for ages (one army book and one edition away), so obviously a lot have changed. Initially I wanted to cram the Cauldron in somewhere, but with only one Khanite unit and a limited point budget, it was hard to justify. Here's what I'm looking at:

    Supreme Sorceress (250)
    - Sacrificial Dagger

    14 Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen (150)
    -Standard Bearer

    10 Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen (110)
    -Standard Bearer

    28 Witch Elves (355)
    -Full command
    -Manbane
    -Banner of Murder

    8 Shades (128)

    TOTAL 993

    I'm especially curious if you think the Witch Elves would work in this kind of setting. I haven't played them since they kicked ass in 7x2, so I sort of have to re-learn the unit, but they look really good on paper, and not prohibitivly expensive. Manbane is a little expensive on a T3 champion with no armour, but with I've killed off heroes with it before, so... Sorceress gets Shadows, probably, and gets chucked in with the larger Crossbowmen regiment so she has some victims for the dagger. Standards in both Crossbow regiments to help out in Blood & Glory.

    Ed.: If I dropped Manbane and the banner in the small Crossbowmen regiment, I could expand the Witch Elves to 32 (8x4). Don't know if it's worth it, though.

    Hi, personally I'd drop a few witch elves and get musicians into those crossbows so that they can fast reform. That's a lot more useful than you might think it is at first.

    Beyond that why 14/10 for crossbows? Wouldn't it be better to have less crossbows, and additional hand weapons on shades?

    The larger unit is for sacrificial dagger victims; but I think that you should just drop it alogether if you aren't going to give her a unit of 25+ warriors. You can use the 25pts for musicians.

    An army that can shoot at the witches while avoiding combat will easily beat you. I know not many armies are like that, but in my group 2/5 of our armies are; it just makes me cringe a bit to see a list like this one.

    I've worked a little more on the list recently, so it now looks like this:

    Supreme Sorceress
    - Sacrificial Dagger

    15 Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen
    -Standard Bearer

    10 Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen

    32 Witch Elves
    -Musician
    -Standard Bearer
    -Banner of Murder

    8 Shades

    Also, bear in mind this is for a doubles tournament, so there will be another 1000 points accompanying it (probably Skaven).

    Personally I find RxB men too valuable to use as dagger fodder. and I think that you have too many points in your sorc at this lvl.

    This is what I would run at 1000pts,
    1000 Pts - Dark Elves Roster

    1 Sorceress, 175 pts Level 2
    1 Tome of Furion
    1 Guiding Eye
    Lore of Fire

    21 Witch Elves of Khaine, 250 pts Musician Std;
    1 Banner of Murder

    Repeater Crossbowmen (20#, 235 pts)
    20 Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen, 235 pts (Musician Mus; Standard Bearer Std; Shield

    15 Dark Elf Warriors, 114 pts (Musician Mus; Standard Bearer Std; Shield;

    10 Shades, 170 pts Extra Hand Weapon;

    5 Harpies, 55 pts (Beasts; Flyer)

    Total Roster Cost: 999

    I think a lvl 2 would be enough here, and you still get your witch elves, just not as many, Harpies are really important, especially when you have frenzied troops.
    The sorc goes in the RxB unit, and hopefully you roll Flaming Sword, but you will always have FireBall, which is an awesome spell by itself anyway.
    Shades are shades, they are amazing. Warriors are there for core points, but to assist in setting up a flank charge with the witches.

    Let the rat mage bring the magic, and leave the juicy shooting and crazy women to us.
    Rejoice and Revel in the Triumph of the Dark!
