Thread: X-wing from FFG

    Re: X-wing from FFG

You might be a bit out of luck with some of the expansions. Static told me there'd be no restocks this side of Christmas, and they were out of Y-Wings and TIE Advanceds last time I was in. Annoying, because I kinda want another two Y-Wings.

As for the movement rules, I think that's the beauty of the game. Like in both versions of Crimson Skies, Full Thrust, Wings of War and other games, there's no random mechanics to get in the way of the decision-making. It's all down to you; do you try to line up that obvious shot, or is your opponent trying to lure you into a trap by swinging that other TIE Fighter in behind you? Even if it's not a trap, you still might want to break off and open the range to try to recharge shields or repair critical damage.

We have good stocks of most of the game items at the moment.

The owner of my LGS is a huge fan, and endorses it every chance he gets. He still has a few boxes and quite a few blisters of all 4 ships available.

Adding it to the Christmas list might be a good idea...

Who are you? I'm reading this on Tapatalk so all I see is your username.

Edit; Wayland, I see. I looked there last night and everything had the blue "on order" indicator. Have you had a restock since?

Edit again: yes you have. If there's any left by tomorrow, I may take some.

As it happens, Static appear to have had a restock, so their earlier comment was apparently overly pessimistic. That or the slow boat from China wasn't so slow.

All these positive reviews are making the game sound very tempting, but I'm still struggling to get over the price... 20 quid for 3 ships in the starter and 10 each after that seems a fair bit.

A wargaming 28mm hero can be $10 or more. These are comparable size, built and prepainted, and come with lots of extras (cards/tokens). So the ship pricing is pretty fair in the world of miniatures.

It seems a decent price for what you get - and it's miles better than the stupid random selection of the WotC game - although you could argue that the game and the extra components are over-engineered.

Considering I bought a statically posed, Finecast, Necron Overlord, with my choice of two different arms for wargear options at just over $20 with tax?

Yeah. Paying $15 for a booster doesn't seem like a bad deal to me.

I thought a while about the booster prices, but by now I think they are okay. You not only get the model, but its rules, and additional options (different pilots). If you take that into account, it is reasonably priced. Of course I would like it cheaper, but that is not an option.

I picked up 3 boosters on Saturday (everything except the locally sold out TIE Advanced), and think they are a fair price.

That's more or less where I'm at with it; you get everything necessary to use the mini in one of those boosters save the dice to roll and the non-ship specific game rules.

While AndrewGPaul does have a point about over-engineering, this approach eschews some armybook/ codex/ ship roster/ whatever and keeps the main rulebook lean and mean.

It's kind of like what the video game console people do- sell the console at a loss, then return a premium on the game. In this instance, the starter core set is the console, the boosters the games.

Wow, my LGS sell it for €16 a booster. And I still think it's decent, the minis are a lot bigger than I thought they'd be

More bothered that everywhere is sold out. Been trying to get this game since it was announced...by the time I lay hands on it everyone will have moved on.

Been playing it since release, and have picked up a handful of additional fighters. It's been very easy for people to dive right into with just a minimal amount of rules explanation. And the cards available provide a fair amount of variety with regards to setup and tactics.

Unlike some others here, I'm really hoping that they *don't* bring in the TIE Defender and Missile Boat. Both were basically textbook examples of "munchkin" spacecraft, and would have been considered horrifically broken if TIE Fighter had included an on-line component.

Try IGUK they still have most bits available.

This game rocks played half a dozen games now and had a blast every time and to me so far barrel roll is the most underated action.

Or try Travelling Man. They've certainly got most of it in Leeds and I'd imagine elsewhere as well.

Played a game, and enjoyed it. Looking forward to the TIE Interceptor (my favourite Starwars fighter), anyone know what they're like in the game?

Also, I hope the B-Wing is introduced (my favourite Rebel craft).

Had my first couple of games last night, a quick intro game, where we added rules (like actions, critical hits, stress) as the game went on and then a 40 point game (Kitted out X-Wing Vs 3 TIE Fighters). A lot of fun, I hope to be able to play this a fair bit.
