how tall is your Necromunda terrain?

    Hello guys

Im working on some towers and ramkps to increase our playing field options and to bring the game up in hiehgt, so to speak. I was wondering what the avarage height of a Necromunda table is?

Previously I used the cities of death buildings that I have and the tallest one was 6 inches high. The terrain pieces had rails and such protection the shooter though so generally people in those places were king! If they got shot they had a chance to fall offcourse but with (always) heavy cover they werent hit that many times.

My new towers and ramps (seen in my blog ) are 9 inches tall but offer no cover protection other then the edge of the ramp your standing on. You will be getting light cover at most in alot of cases, and at 9 inches high thats a long drop down

Im hoping the ramps will be high risk/high reward! Il be testing them this saturday

Could anyone share how tall their terrain setup is?

I tend not to focus so much on actual height as I do the number of stories. I try for at least two buildings that are three levels high with the majority being at least two stories tall (ground floor, second floor, and a roof). I had one group where we had a couple of five story buildings and a six story building with the majority of our buildings being three stories with a few fours and twos mixed in, but no single story buildings. These days my buildings are meant to support Necromunda, 40K, and Inquisitor so my levels match up more with the City of Death terrain from Citadel. When I was playing with the group with the five and six story buildings the levels were typically between three and four inches tall as all they were used for was 32mm models. No matter which way I've gone with groups whatever buildings were tallest we kept out of the deployment zones as it makes it super easy to set up a firebase at the start of the game and never move those models for the rest of it.

Back when I played, we used the official terrain and homemade stuff made with the same dimensions (i.e. 3" per level). We tried to stick lots of 1 and 2 level buildings, and a few 3 and 4 level buildings around. Denser terrain helps limit the effectiveness of those who use the really high stuff, without completely removing the benefits.

The tallest piece on the table was a crane, standing at an impressive 18 inches tall. Great for sniping and leaving hostages. Unless your opponent had vents...

I still use mostly the original terrain but I have two homemade pieces which stand at 12" tall (plus scatter terrain) as any mor than 4 floors is to much and people tend to move up and down levels less if it's too far.

Most of the buildings on our table are made using discarded pringles chip cans conected to platforms at 3 inch intervals. I think they are about 10" tall. We then connect them together with bridges on varying levels so the action is spread between levels.
We did once play a lord of the spire game using the out of the box terrain from multiple sets to make a 24 inch tall tower..which someone managed to fall off the top of.

If anyone falls from the anything higher than 12" we say they're deader than dead so that may affect the height of the terrain too :/

Re: how tall is your Necromunda terrain?

Glad to see that most guys have 9 or 10 inches or so as their tallest buildings Exceptions aside offcourse 3 stories seem to be considerd tall with only cranes and towers and the like surpassing that. Kinda what I was going for!

@NomComPoop: Yea thats what I made my towers out of as well Theyre about 9 and 1/3's of an inch tall. Shape and scale match Necromunda so well though! Cut some up into smaller sections and have one with 3 balconies each at 3 inch difference between eachother

    Thanks for the feedback guys!
