Thread: Fantasy Flight Games do Star Wars.

Fantasy Flight Games do Star Wars.

New Star Wars RPG from Fantas Flight Games, apparently using the tried and tested Warhammer RPG release model of producing 3 games with the same rules to maximise profit.

Early worries is that this beta product is quite pricey considering there is no mention of a discount off a full copy (which you get with the Only War beta although this is a book not a PDF).

Early reports about the system suggest it to be a similar dice pool mechanic to WFRP3.

Devotion, the second myth of reality: The faithfull are most hurt by the objects of their faith.
Conviction, the third myth of reality: Only those who seek the truth can be decieved.
Fellowship, the fourth myth of reality: As the tides of war shift, so do loyalties.
Trust, the fifth myth of reality: Every truth holds the seed of betrayal.

30 dollars plus shipping, with no discount off the release version seems extortionate to me. Plus I really don't like the idea of three separate core books. Why not just release one core rule book and then themed supplements. They seem to be going down the 40k route, which is looking pretty creaky under the number of books they're now up to.

Plus, where's the imperial themed book?

This is my main worry for the system as I really disliked 3rd ed WFRP. I'm really not fond of throwing tons of dice in a system; especialy if I have to start adding and subtracting different symbols. 'I roll three hammers, two of which are negated by the crossed swords, I roll a Comet which can translates to a Hammer which I can use to offset the Skull I threw but I also got a Blood drop so I take a point of fatigue..... that means I fail to hit'. It seemed in our sessions that we threw tons of dice but really didn't seem to get anywhere as our chances of failure were so high. I even felt the GM got fed up after a couple of sessions.

Re: Fantasy Flight Games do Star Wars.

I'll have to wait and see. I can't say i like the 40k 'multiple core books' model, it just smacks of moneygrabbing to me, and i still haven't got round to even running WFRP3 yet. Awkwardly building a dice pool and working it all out is far to overcomplicated, the percentile system of 40k and WFRP2 is fine.

Overall i'm not a fan of rping Star Wars TBH. Jedi have to be overpowered to fit the background and it totally ruins it IMO.

    At least it's not d20.
